Over 89 fantastic individual supporters helped us raise a record amount of funds this year to defeat blood cancer. We beat our goal by 240% and raised $22,000! You can still pile on!

Leukemia Cup Committee Members,

I know everyone is on a Leukemia Cup high right now…but there is a special event going on at the QYC that you should know about and are invited to.  We have all been working on seemingly impossible goals…well Matt Rutherford reached for his dreams and did the impossible when he finished his 25,000-mile, 300-day, non-stop, solo sailing expedition around the Americas in his donated 27-foot boat.

You and the members of your yacht clubs are invited to join us this coming Friday, September 14, at the QYC Clubhouse, to welcome Matt Rutherford as our honored speaker and guest.  This event is open to everyone so please spread the word to others to come and share in the journey with Matt as well.

We will have a social beginning at 7:30PM with Matt's talk and Q & A beginning at 8:00PM.   The QYC is located behind the Quantico Marina on the Quantico Marine Corp Base.  If you need directions…just shoot me a note.

Hope to see you there…it should be a fascinating talk.

David Robinson

For those who don't know Matt Rutherford, he is a 30-year-old Maryland resident and self-taught sailor.   Like us, he did this trip to raise money for and awareness of his own special cause, C.R.A.B (Chesapeake Regional Accessible Boating). C.R.A.B is a non-profit organization that gives sailing opportunities to people with mental and physical disabilities.  While volunteering at C.R.A.B., Matt was looking for his next adventure but also wanted to challenge others to support C.R.A.B. That's when he devised this 25,000 mile voyage to sail solo and non-stop around the Americas – up the North Atlantic Coast, through the Northwest Passage around Alaska, down the Pacific coasts of North and South America, around Cape Horn and then up the Atlantic back to the Chesapeake Bay. Matt's motivation for the trip is to show people, particularly those with disabilities, that there are no limits to what can be accomplished in life.  His adventures have been chronicled in Cruising World and other sailing media.
