This is fabulous! Practice and prevention seem to be the key.
My observation is that the Boston Whaler would probably capsize as well!
A mast tip device to prevent the Turtle ing seems essential.
The SCOW capsize training is excellent, however the movement of a
practiced crew member to the mast head with a seat cushion is essential. In
the chaos of a race or with untrained crew a disaster is possible.
My confidence in the Flying Scott went way up as it did not take on water
in the 'mast tip in the water' attitude.
So, we need to invest in a mast head device and continue to give a good
briefing to crews. While such briefings tend to increase new crew anxiety,
when briefed regularly as 'matter of fact' the crews might feel more
confident about the realities.
