A Washingtoni Magyar Iskola nyílt napot tart most vasárnap, május 3-án. Meghivjuk az érdeklődő családokat a magyar nyelv órákra délután 3-tól 5-ig. Szeretettel várjuk a 3 és 14 közötti gyerekeket.

Az órák előtt 2-től focizni is fogunk az iskola mögötti füves pályán. Az órák után pedig sokan megyünk a Magyar Érték és Szépség műsorra.

Kérjük, hogy e-mailben jelezzétek, ha részt szeretnétek venni az órákon, írjatok meg a gyerekek nevét és életkorát, hogy a tanárnők készülni tudjanak.

The Hungarian Academy will hold an open house this coming Sunday. We invite all interested familes to attend our Hungarian classes from 3 to 5pm. We welcome children between age 3 and 14.

Join us for some soccer before school from 2pm on the grass fields behind the school. After school many of us will head to the Hungarian Fashion and Music Show.

Please email us if you are interested with the names and ages of your children, so our teachers can prepare for them.

[Unicum] Tour to Transylvania, NOT Hungary

CORRECTION TO EARLIER NOTICE

Due to lack of subscriptions to the Hungary portion of the tours sponsored by the American Hungarian Educators Association, the Hungarian portion has been cancelled. There might still be room on the Transylvanian portion, July 12-18, 2015.

[Unicum] Looking for Family Day Care/Nanny

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good family day care in Silver Spring. I am a first time mom and looking for childcare for my baby starting in July. If you know of a good in-home childcare provider, I would appreciate if you could let me know.

[Unicum] LAST CHANCE! Meghivo / Invitation: Magyar Jótékonysági Bál / Hungarian Charity Ball

The 10th Annual Hungarian Charity Ball returns to Washington and raises funds for worthy causes... The American Hungarian Federation, the American Hungarian Heritage House and the Hungarian Scouts of Washington sponsor the Jótékonysági Est (Benefit Event) to support educational and charitable programs. This year's event returns to the Sheraton Premiere at Tyson's Corner.

Over the past decade, the Ball has raised tens of thousands of dollars for worthy causes both in the United States and throughout the Hungarian communities in the Carpathian Basin.

[Unicum] Great Trips in Hungaryh and Transylvania

As part of the AHEA conference in Kolozsvar (Cluj) Romania, the AHEA is organizing two trips: one from Budapest to Kolozsvar touching on significant towns in Northern Hungary starting from Budapest and ending in Kolozsvar. The other is a specialized tour of significant sites in Transylvania returning to Budapest.

While the trip are organized around the AHEA conference, they are open to all who would like to participate. Please check out details on the AHEA web site. I am helping a Ward 4 candidate with over a decade of experience with urban issues defeat Brandon Todd, the misguided choice of some elites as frontrunner to win Muriel Bowser's city council seat tomorrow and thought i would share an easy way to make a difference in the race while making some extra cash in the process.

From what I have seen from some canvassing and metro flyering the last few days, my candidate is the only one making a serious field push but they need all the help they can get to cover all polling places on Tuesday and do some door-to-door literature distribution today and tonight.

This is so critical because Todd is Ward 4 Dems Chair and Constituent Services Director for Muriel Bowser so he has been well-funded.....even though his reputation for responding to community needs is not very good and if you visit his facebook page you can scroll through his Likes to see a who's who of rightwingers he supports even though he became a Democrat: https://www.facebook.com/BTT2012

Unfortunately, he was endorsed by the Washington Post editorial board but as you can see this endorsement was so lazy that they didn't have any concern over his support for wacko Republicans and they didn't bother to mention any of the other candidates:

Position: Digital Director, Common Good VA PAC (Gov. Terry McAuliffe)

Location: Washington, DC or Richmond, VA

Reports to: Brian Zuzenak, Executive Director

Pay: Commensurate with experience

Common Good VA PAC (Gov. Terry McAuliffe's leadership PAC) and the Democratic Party of Virginia are looking for an individual, possibly two, to run digital operations for the 2015 cycle with potential for 2016 work as well. This individual should have experience leveraging online assets for the purpose of fundraising, engagement, and voter turnout for political entities. The digital director will be a largely shared resource, working on behalf of the PAC, the state party, and the House and Senate Caucuses. Emphasis will be placed with the PAC on recapturing the State Senate this year (Dems are currently 1 seat down and only need a tie). The digital director will work with candidates to help them more effectively communicate and distribute their message and increase their fundraising potential.

(Career Progress) Change Corps Development Director

Change Corps seeks an experienced fundraiser and external relations director to develop and oversee our fundraising efforts and campaign partnership outreach. Change Corps is a group of experienced organizers who understand that new organizers need a place to start, learn, and make their mark. The Associate Director will be an integral part of our team, driving forward our training program through fundraising and organizational building efforts, increasing Change Corps' effectiveness and visibility, strengthening our partnerships, and advancing our mission. Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director, the Associate Director will spearhead development efforts as Change Corps continues to grow. A new position in a fast growing organization, the Director will have the opportunity to build the development and campaign partnership functions at Change Corps.

Change Corps is a field academy for new organizers. We partner with some of the nation's top social change organizations. This spring, organizers are working with Everytown for Gun Safety to advocate for background checks and safer gun laws that will save lives. And this past fall, organizers worked with MoveOn.org to turn out voters to the polls this election and lift up candidates for the Senate who support women's health. Organizers work on 3-5 campaigns during the year, and our activists move around to where they are needed most. We seek an experienced fundraiser who will help raise the money to build our power and program.

Responsibilities:

Develop and execute Change Corps' annual fundraising plan by building lasting relationships in the funder community. Build resources for our work through foundations, major donors, event planning and other grassroots fundraising opportunities.
Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and small donors.
Train and develop Change Corps staff who will assist with fundraising efforts. Assist staff in designing and implementing personal fundraising strategies.
Design and create marketing materials, social media, and advertising campaigns as part of our overall fundraising mission. Strategize opportunities for brand marketing and expand the target audience of Change Corps through community relations, speaking engagements, and visibility events.
Develop and line up Change Corps' campaign partnerships plan by building lasting relationships in the progressive community with future campaign partner organizations.
Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors, Executive Directors and Political Directors.
Create and execute a strategy for maintaining a list of a large, sustained base of members.
Oversee the organization of special events.
Write and track proposals and reports for all foundation and grant fundraising.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have at least 3-4 years of organizing and fundraising experience, including community organizing, campus organizing, campaign coordination, grant writing, or coalition building. The ideal candidate is passionate about community organizing and movement building and has a track record of accomplishments. Fundraising experience, either through grants or through grassroots organizing, is necessary. Strong experience working in or with coalitions is a plus. Persuasive writing, strong verbal communication and the ability to interact at the executive level are key qualifications for a successful Associate Director.

Salary for this position is commensurate with the relevant professional experience and/or advanced degrees that a candidate has.
