Introducing the new Search Console (beta)

To owner of http://how-forever.blogspot.com/,

Search Console is introducing a redesigned product to help you manage your presence on Google Search. The new Search Console was rebuilt from the ground up to provide the tools and insights that site owners and SEOs have been asking for. You can now confirm which of your pages are indexed and get information on how to fix indexing errors. You can also monitor your performance on Google Search with 16-months of data (to enable year-over-year comparisons).

We recommend checking your current status using the new Search Console today, as we will only notify you if your site data changes from the current state.

New post on New Media Ventures

We're Hiring! Fundraising & Communications Associate

by Shannon Baker

New Media Ventures (NMV) is a mission-driven venture fund and investor network focused on innovation to advance progressive change. Our mission is to find, support, and finance organizations that are telling new stories, building advocacy movements, and catalyzing civic engagement. Over the past 7 years, we have supported 60 promising startups, many of which are now widely recognized pillars of the social change community, from Upworthy and Blavity to SumOfUs, Ultraviolet and Vote.org. Our recent Resist & Rebuild Open Call received 500 applications, and we are thrilled to be investing millions in new startups working to protect our democracy and advance social justice. We do all this with a tiny staff and nimble organization and we are seeking a Fundraising & Communications Associate to help us take our impact to the next level.

Are you highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about social change? Help us make sure we never miss a deadline or opportunity, are prepared for every fundraising meeting, and do a great job of sharing our story with the world! We are especially interested in democratizing access to capital and encourage people who are under-represented in the investment and startup communities to apply.

Your responsibilities:

  • Support our fundraising efforts by helping us stay organized and put our best foot forward: manage our grants calendar, process incoming gifts, draft donor communication (including reports and proposals), maintain database, and prep leadership team for funder meetings
  • Improve our communications: maintain the editorial calendar, manage social media, update collateral, and send out newsletters
  • Help us plan and execute fantastic events, including our annual Summit, donor-hosted dinners, and funder briefings
  • Pitch-in as needed to keep the office running smoothly

Candidate requirements:

  • You are proactive, eager to take ownership, and quick to incorporate feedback
  • You have remarkable organizational skills and attention to detail: you love to create order out of chaos, never miss a deadline, get a thrill from a well-organized spreadsheet, and have an eagle eye for typos
  • Strong communication skills: you can represent NMV effectively and tell our story to a variety of external audiences, including funders and investors
  • Team player: you are happy to schedule meetings or run errands if that's what needed in a busy moment when everyone is juggling many tasks
  • Strong values: you build relationships with empathy, integrity, humor and respect; you are committed to advancing social and environmental justice

Candidate Pluses (note: we don't expect any candidate to match more than 1 or 2 in the list below)

  • Experience with grant-writing and/or external communications
  • Eye for design and experience crafting messages
  • Experience with Salesforce and/or MailChimp
  • We operate at the intersection of social justice, digital organizing, new media, technology and impact investing. Experience in any of these domains a plus.

What to expect from us:

  • Salary range: $55,000 - $65,000
  • Full benefits, including 401k match and health
  • A team with a sense of justice and a sense of humor
  • A low-ego, high-performance culture and flexible work environment

Using our deep expertise in litigation, policy, and communications, we address issues that affect the lives of low-income immigrants and work with communities across the nation to create a more inclusive, just, and equitable society.

Join our dedicated, collaborative, and fun team as we fight to defend and advance the ideals that our nation is founded on!

  • Serve as a thought partner with hiring managers to develop effective sourcing and recruitment strategies that result in client satisfaction. Develop effective relationships within the organization and the hiring community to have influence and impact the recruiting process and hiring.
Staff Development & Retention
  • Develop orientation and new staff training practices that get people what they need right out of the gate and increase the likelihood of a good start.
  • Develop and communicate a staff investment strategy, and update annually.
  • Manage the maintenance and execution of the performance management system, including current job descriptions, standards of performance, and performance evaluation instruments.

[Unicum] Losing a lifelong spouse and the Hungarian language.

I have occasion to think about this now, sad to say.  Not only does a surviving spouse feel grief, but there is also nobody around who speaks Hungarian with about your most intimate day to day life.  Nobody who understands what you went through in order to emigrate.

My mom, who is 94 and also has nobody to speak Hungarian with, just told me that she recites the Lord's Prayer in Hungarian just so she won't forget it.  She said the words were difficult in this prayer.  I listened to a vocal arrangement on Youtube set to music that I thought presented the language in a most beautiful and transcendent way; since group rules usually prohibit links, the name of the youtube is:The Our Father (in Hungarian with English subtitle), and you'll be able to locate it, 3:33 minutes in length.

Sincerely yours,
Mary Knight
Kensington MD

  • Critical thinking, logical problem solving ability, and a willingness to learn.
  • Proven ability to organize, prioritize and complete diverse projects; strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Some familiarity with MS Access, MS SQL Server, writing SQL queries or HTML a bonus.
  • Previous experience using NGPVAN MyNGP or Votebuilder in a campaign setting.
  • Fundraising, Digital or Compliance experience on a campaign or with a non-profit.

(Career Progress) Nonprofit Support Specialist for EveryAction

Are you passionate about helping progressives do more good in the world by providing them with the tools to make a greater impact? Do you have deep connections within the progressive community and a knack for problem-solving? If so, we'd love to talk to you about joining the EveryAction team – bringing nearly two decades of world class organizing, fundraising, advocacy, and engagement tools to our clients.

We are looking for a Client Services team member to help support progressive organizations using our software to make the world a better place.  Our staff aren't just people who do support or training, they are expert practitioners who make our clients more effecting in their social missions.  The position will work out of our DC office, alongside an experienced team that is already supporting great clients like the Greenpeace, Planned Parenthood, United Nations Foundation, Victory Fund, NAACP, Everytown, Comic Relief, Audubon, Environmental Defense Fund, AFL-CIO, SEIU, NextGen America, and Rock the Vote.

Social mission is at the core of what we do, and we're looking for people who love our clients as much as we do.

What You're Good At

  • You have experience working with fundraising, advocacy, and email tools, for nonprofits, unions, or political campaigns.
  • You have used EveryAction, VAN and Votebuilder (or their competitors) extensively as part of your day-to-day responsibilities.
  • You are passionate about progressive causes, and good technology, and are willing to work with lots of different orgs who need our help.
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills, and run towards a person with a problem instead of running away.
  • You're invigorated by working in an agile, creative, quick-paced, and collaborative environment;
  • You enjoy working across cross-functional teams to get the job done.
  • You're detail-oriented, great at following up and don't let things slip through the cracks.

Bonus Points

  • Previous experience teaching or training, including activities such as mentoring, tutoring and/or software support.
  • Experience in customer relations or an equivalent field, though not required, is valued;
  • You have an established network in the campaign or nonprofit technology world.
  • You have familiarity with HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

The position is for either our Washington, DC office or our Boston office, located in Somerville, MA.
