Jim --

Heads up: The deadline to apply for an OFA summer organizing fellowship is this Friday, May 3rd.

If you know someone who should be part of the incredible group of organizers looking to hone their skills this summer -- and help pass the President's agenda while they're at it -- send them the application:

http://my.barackobama.com/Be-an-OFA-Summer-Fellow

Check out Ashley's original email below for more details on the program and what we're looking for.

Whether it's you or a friend filling out the application, make sure to get it in by Friday!

Sara

Subject: The best way to spend this summer

Friend --

Organizing for Action is looking for dedicated and talented people to join the Summer Organizing Fellowship, a three-month program that will train the next generation of OFA leaders.

You're getting this email because we think you know someone who could be a great fit -- maybe it's your friend or colleague, or maybe it's you!

Apply now -- or share this link -- to get started as an OFA summer fellow. We have a lot of spots to fill, and we're counting on you to help find the best candidates.

So many grassroots leaders got their start in a program just like this.

Summer organizing fellows will learn everything they need to know about organizing for change on both the national and local levels, and will play a major role in supporting and growing volunteer-led chapters across the country.

Organizing Fellows are especially critical right now. We have a real opportunity to pass so much of the agenda we fought for and Americans voted for last fall -- on comprehensive immigration reform, gun violence prevention, strengthening the middle class and much more. This summer is our chance to make real progress.

Fellows will work long hours, and these positions are unpaid. But if you're accepted, you'll come away with an invaluable set of skills -- like recruiting volunteers, working with the media, grassroots fundraising, and using digital tools -- and a network of friends and colleagues that will be lifelong assets.

Here's where to start the application. Fill it out, or forward this email to a friend or two, and we'll be in touch:

http://my.barackobama.com/Be-an-OFA-Summer-Fellow

Thanks,

Ashley

Ashley Pinedo
National Training Director
Organizing for Action

P.S. -- Organizing Fellows are of all ages and from all different backgrounds -- that's part of what makes the program so strong. So if you know someone who'd be perfect for this, regardless of experience, encourage them to apply today.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Members,

This August me and my two friends are going to visit the U.S. and planning to travel around the East Coast for two weeks from Philadelphia to Charleston.

Unfortunately, the problem we have to face every time is the high costs of hostels. At this point we would like to ask for your help if you know any parish or a kind person/family who could bed us for a night even in smaller, more separate locations (as we will have a rented car). We absolutely would not have any demands, we imagine it like a „couchsurfing"-type of lodging. This would be an enormous help for us. (Campsites are welcome!)

If for any reason, you could not give us a direct help, we're glad if you put this request on an appropriate mailing list or share it on Facebook. I you decided to forward our mail to a friend or an acquaintance, please do it if he or she understands the situation. (So he or she wouldn't think that we're just kind of "sponges" and want to exploit people, but would bed us with pleasure, and give us a hand in this way, as we would give viceversa in other situations.)

Our planned itinerary: Philadelphia-Wilmington-Washington-Richmond-Norfolk-Fayetteville-Charleston

Period: From 07/29/2013 to 08/07/2013

reference: Bagyinszki Agoston, Franciscan

e-mailmullner.jasper@gmail.com

By the way, we are university students studying International Relations/Finance and Economics. This will be our first trip to the US.

Thank you for your time and consideration and many thanks in advance for any help!

Jasper Mullner

The Embassy of Hungary and the

Embassy Series cordially invites you and your friends to the

Concert of Barnabás Kelemen - violin Péter Bársony - viola

Melvin Chen piano

Monday, May 6th at 7:30 pm

Embassy of Hungary
2950 Spring of Freedom, 20008, Washington DC., NW

The concert is an event of the European Month of Culture - May 2013

"...I was surprised to find that the Hungarian violin virtuoso Jeno Hubay 1858-1937) also played and composed for the viola...It is an enjoyable work...better than many of the other viola concertos I have heard...Barsony is fully up to the technical and tonal demands of the piece, and the Erkel Chamber Orchestra is a polished group that produces a satisfyingly full sound...Peter Barsony is a good violist with consistently good intonation and an even vibrato in every register..."

Joseph Magil, American Record Guide Jan/Feb 2011

"Bársony plays with confidence and ample technique. The recording reproduce faithfully Bársony’s highly personal tone”

Carlos Maria Solare, The Strad

“The piano part, filled with leaping chords and quicksilver runs, is virtuosic, but the dynamic Mr. Chen was its master.”
“a pianist whose playing is powerful and driven"

The New York Times

"His [Chen's] Diabelli easily qualifies for that rarefied niche of performances that can be termed ‘classic’.”

American Record Guide

Péter Bársony  was the founding member of the Akadémia and Somogyi String Quartets, was member of the Keller String Quartet and he has been solo viola player of the Concerto Budapest since 2000. [Unicum] FINAL REMINDER! April 19, 2013 - Invitation: 8th Annual Hungarian Charity Ball / Jótékonysági Est

FINAL REMINDER!

INVITATION / MEGHÍVÓ!
Come to the 8th Annual Hungarian Charity Ball
! April 19, 2013, Washington, D.C.

READ MORE AND BUY TICKETS ONLINE! If you can’t attend, consider a donation.
http://www.americanhungarianfederation.org/news_AHF_Hungarian_Ball_2013-04-19.html

The Annual Hungarian Charity Ball raises funds for worthy causes... The American Hungarian Federation and the Hungarian Scouts of Washington sponsor the Jótékonysági Est (Benefit Event) to support educational and charitable programs. This year's event returns to the Sheraton Premiere at Tyson's Corner: 8661 Leesburg Pike, Vienna, VA 22182. PLEASE NOTE: Cocktails at 6pm, program begins at 7pm!  Music by the New York Continental Band accompanied by Zsuzsanna Seres-Petran & George Petran. Black Tie! Great food, dance, friends, and a great cause! [download the program]

This year we are contributing funds toward the purchase of diagnostic equipment to support the Lung Ward of Trebišov Hospital (Tőketerebes Állami Kórház Tüdőosztály) in Eastern Slovakia. The Lung Ward treats numerous patients who contracted lung cancer or other lung-related diseases, following the Chernobyl disaster. Our support will help the continued operation of this facility. We will also present the AHF SERVICE AWARD for outstanding contributions to Hungarian culture and our community.

In addition, we are supporting this year's Smithsonian Folklife Festival. The Festival's theme is "Hungarian Heritage - Roots to Revival" and features a wide spectrum of activities from Hungarian folk crafts to dance and music from various Hungarian communities, including Transylvania. The Festival takes place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. from June 26 to July 7. This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase our heritage and presence in the Carpathian Basin. Designer Dénes Kaszta created the beautiful festival logo seen here (based on a 1930s photo of the peacock façade decoration of a house from Kalotaszeg). Ágnes Fülemile, Director of the Balassi Institute - Hungarian Cultural Center in New York is working closely with the Hungarian Embassy, AHF and the Hungarian-American community to raise funds to make this incredible event a success. THIS TAKES MONEY! Please support us and also volunteer!

The site of the Hungary Program on the Mall was recently approved. It will be the area on the side closest to the Capitol with a nice open view to the Capitol building. The area has lots of advantages. Being closest to the Smithsonian Palace, most probably the Opening Ceremony of the Festival will be held at the main stage of the Hungary Program. As you can see in the plans here, this is an ambitious program that needs our financial support and many volunteers! [read more about Smithsonian Folk Life Festival].

IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND, PLEASE DONATE!
