RE: [SCOW] Interesting report on dinghy entrapment

Julian,
Thanks for this report. Really important food for thought.
This study seems based on a tragic accident at the Severn Sailing Assn (SSA) in Annapolis.
The accident report discusses the problems and several safety rules the club put into effect since.
Some are very sensible and easy to do.

Masthead flotation is discussed at: http://www.wayfarer-international.org/WIT/useful_skills_of_all_kinds/masthead.buoyancy/NAgroup_Masthead_Buoyancy.html

Not sure I'd like to have a plastic detergent bottle at the masthead but there are several other ideas.
The "Floatie" referenced in the report seems to have been developed by North Sails in Annapolis.
The foam noodle seems better to me.
John
