Saturday, May 12, 2012

Interested in the European Union? Get to know us firsthand by volunteering at the 6th Annual EU Embassies' Open House on May 12.

We are looking for volunteers to help us welcome guests.

Volunteers will also help direct visitors to participating embassies from Open House bus stops or nearby metro stations, and assist passengers and drivers aboard the EU Open House buses.

Orientation and training sessions will be held at the EU Delegation on Tuesday, May 1 at 12:30pm and 5:30pm.  Volunteers receive an official EU Open House T-shirt and cap, and will be invited to an exclusive EU Open House party later in May.

European Union Youth Orchestra United States Tour

April 13 -24, 2012

In April 2012 young musicians from across the 27 EU Member States journey to the USA for their first tour since 1988.

Renowned globally as a cultural ambassador for the EU, the European Union Youth Orchestra unites young musicians under world-class conductors. Founded in 1976 by a vote in the British Parliament, the orchestra regularly tours internationally. Guest conductors for the USA tour include classical luminaries Vladimir Ashkenazy, Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman and Yefim Bronfman.

The tour celebrates the strong transatlantic ties between the US, UK and Europe. Representing the diverse political, cultural, social and religious identities of the EU, orchestra members will also have opportunities to perform with American musicians and meet American students through open rehearsals and social gatherings.
