Hi Jim,

Almost overnight, Trayvon Martin's tragic story became a global news headline that put the issues of racial justice, inequality, and gun laws in the public and political dialogue.

But the story didn't break the next day. It took nearly three weeks before it caught fire. And the story wasn't pushed into the public sphere by news media; it was driven by social media and online organizing, until traditional outlets took notice.

Join us Wednesday, April 11 at the AFL-CIO (815 16th St NW, 20005) from 12-1pm for Tweet, Click, Post, Share: How the Internet Made Trayvon Martin Global News

We'll discuss what this case teaches us about moving the cause of racial justice forward using social media and online organizing, and how we can engage the many issues that helped lead to this tragedy without losing sight of the racial justice issue at the core.

Panelists include: Maria Roach, whose petition to the Justice Department collected over 500,000 signatures; Mark Glaze, Director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns; and Tim Newman, Senior Organizer at Change.org.

Space is limited: RSVP now to join the discussion!

We'll provide a light lunch and refreshments. Doors open at 11:30, and the panel starts promptly at 12noon.

Hope you'll join us,

Evan Sutton
