Whole Foods will place a special order for a crate of fresh currants with a 2-day notice. So people could get together or simply just purchase the amount needed. They also have currant preserves and dried. Rodman's carries them in a jar for $4.60 (don't know size). I might try to find a currant bush for the garden.

My grandmother made this currant cake in Toledo in the 30's. I can't find a recipe. A simple sponge sheet cake with merengue and fresh currants. I would love to have a recipe if you have one to share.Mary KnightKensington MD--
