POSITION AVAILABLE: Campaign Director, Transparency and Accountability (Position Located in Maryland)
REPORTS TO: Executive Director, Maryland
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Campaign Director will manage Common Cause Maryland’s Transparency and Accountability campaigns, including local and statewide initiatives. The Director will be primarily responsible for coalition development and leadership, and for developing and implementing policy reform campaigns.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coalition building: maintain and build the coalition, regular updates/information to coalition leadership members, host in-person meetings/calls, and address the needs/questions of coalition members.
  • Grassroots outreach: develop and implement a grassroots strategy utilizing social media, communication with Common Cause Maryland members, and targeted grassroots engagement with new audiences. Develop a strong online presence through both the Common Cause website and potentially a coalition webpage.
  • Press coverage: build relationships with reporters on this issue. Implement the press strategy including drafting releases, coordinating events, and responding to media inquiries.
  • Research and policy development: produce research and reports as needed by the coalition to support the policy campaign. Work with the Executive Director to draft legislation and amendments as needed.
  • Advocacy: work with Executive Director in elected official outreach and lobbying, monitor changes in the political landscape, monitor the list of priority electeds and the tactics being employed to encourage them to lead, and make recommendations to adjust tactics as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: 3-5 years’ experience in policy or electoral campaigns. Demonstrated leadership and organizing ability; Excellent written and oral communications skills; Familiarity with the state legislature and legislative process; Strong interpersonal skills; Commitment to the public interest; Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment with competing priorities; Skills in public speaking; Able to travel; Working knowledge and proficiency with social media tools including Facebook and Twitter; Proficient with Microsoft Office.
