*Summary*:
 
Do you crave the excitement of a campaign – but with a little more
stability and a little less travel? Do you yearn for your work to have a
lasting impact on the policy debate? Do you thrive on teaching your team
the tricks of the trade while leading them to victory? The Truman National
Security Project seeks a strategic and experienced senior campaign
professional to lead our Advocacy Department. Our ideal candidate will
thrive in a fast-paced, political environment, have managed several
political and/or issue campaigns, and possess a solid understanding of
targeting and advocacy tactics. S/he should be goal-oriented and able to
strategically conceive of plans and activities that will turn issues into
policy, and possess a strong commitment to analytics to ensure program
success.
 
 
*Basic Functions*:
 
· Oversee all aspects of Truman's Advocacy Department, including
our award-winning Operation Free and Make US Strong campaigns, and deliver
on all aspects of high-quality campaigns.
 
· Work closely with other department heads (Communications, Policy,
Membership, Development, etc.) and senior leadership to maintain Truman's
brand and ensure that advocacy resources are used effectively.
 
· Ensure legal compliance of all Advocacy activities.
 
· Ensure Advocacy Department grant deliverables are met.
 
· Track and analyze program metrics to evaluate successes and
ensure strategies are impactful.
 
· Help grow Truman's nationwide presence through list-building and
other strategies.
 
 
 
*Qualifications*:
 
· Strong knowledge of strategic campaign management and legislative
advocacy tactics, including field, communications, press, and targeting.
· Ability to think creatively and develop strategies that will move
policymakers to support a certain issue or position.
· Experience managing a budget and knowledge of campaign laws a
plus.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
· Strong personnel management skills and desire to teach and mentor
less experienced staff.
· Diplomatic, professional approach to problem solving while
working independently or as part of a team.
· Ability to manage several projects concurrently and prioritize
work and delegate effectively.
· Ability to be flexible and nimble in fast-paced, political
environments.
· Strong commitment to Truman values.
