Dear DC Net Impact Members,

I am the Co-Founder of the Social Innovators Collective, a New York based international network of emerging founders, leaders and individuals who work in the social enterprise and nonprofit sectors. Our mission is to nurture, shape, and train the next wave of changemakers so that they can demonstrate both measurable social impact and achieve financially sustainability.

This summer I'm working with a core team of members to produce an eBook/book called The Social Innovators Survival Guide. It is being created in response to a number of SIC members who have reluctantly gone back into the work force because their ventures failed. Sadly, they didn't have many of the small business skills needed to run a successful organization

The book will offer the needed information most startup changemakers are lacking to ensure their success. Some of the material will come from the workshops we've been hosting in New York at General Assembly and through the Skillshare platform. However, most importantly, we want the content to come from the community itself - social good founders and professionals who work in the nonprofit and social enterprise sectors.

I've organized a gathering on July 26th from 6-8pm at the Jefferson Consulting Group for those interested in what I'm calling a brainstorming session. We want to find out what's needed before approaching a publisher. I'll be sharing a brief PPT presentation which outlines the scope of the book and then we'll move into workshop mode to get your feedback, thoughts, ideas about what to include and the best format to use. In addition to the book we will also be building a one-stop-shop online resource center. We're also interested in looking into various types of partnerships so that we can share this information with the largest community possible.

If you or any of your colleagues, partners, or friends would like to join us, below are all the details. We'll be providing beverages and light fare.

GATHERING DETAILS:

When: Tuesday, June 26th from 6 - 8pm
WhereJefferson Consulting Group, 1401 K Street, NW, Suite 900, WashingtonDC 2000
Cost: Free

Sincerely

Shana

About The Social Innovators Collective

The Social Innovators Collective is a 100% volunteer, international network of emerging founders, leaders and individuals who work in the social enterprise and nonprofit sectors. The Collective was born in 2010 when a handful of New York-based social entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders realized that we were dealing with strikingly similar challenges, and that by leveraging our collective resources and insights we could overcome those challenges. Our mission is to nurture, shape, and train the next wave of changemakers so that they can both demonstrate measurable social impact and achieve financially sustainability. The story of how we began was featured in NextBillion - http://bit.ly/uGTLbq last December.

Since our public launch in October of 2011 we have produced two workshop series on financial sustainability at General Assembly, a bootcamp hosted at Parsons School of Design, panels of social good industry experts for conferences like Social Media Week, as well as classes for Internet Week NYC and Skillshare's Penny Conference. Additionally members of the SIC have spoken at social enterprise conferences at Harvard, Yale, Brown, Columbia and New York University.
