Synopsis:
Under a tight deadline, journalism student Gwendolyn struggles to choose a historical figure as the focus of a high school homework assignment. When her grandmother steps in to help, Gwendolyn takes an unexpected journey through history to meet civil rights activist and renowned journalist Charlayne Hunter-Gault, the first Black female student to desegregate the University of Georgia in 1961. As Gwendolyn learns about the adversities that Charlayne overcame, she discovers her own family legacy at the University of Georgia and embraces her responsibility to continue the fight for equality.
Characters:
Maya (60s) African American female, savvy elder who enjoys reading and cooking
Toni (40s) African American female, raising her teen daughter, active
Gwendolyn "Gwennie" (14) African American female, typical teenager, prefers movies over books
Submission Process:
· Please submit an unlisted YouTube or Vimeo link of a taped monologues (1-2 minutes long).

Submission deadline: Saturday, April 23 by 10 pm EST
Use the following format for email subject: GV: Character – Your First Initial, Last Name
In the body of the email, please include callback preference to expedite scheduling.
An example is:
April 30 anytime between 1 pm - 3 pm
May 1 - unavailable
Callbacks will be notified no later than Wednesday, April 27 and provided with sides and an audition day and time.
Callbacks will be held during the following days and times:
Saturday, April 30: 1pm -3pm [Silver Spring or Bowie, Maryland location]
Sunday, May 1: 1pm - 3 pm [Downtown Washington DC location]
