Re: [Unicum] travel to Budapest

Thanks all! I had this same information, but my timeline is a little too tight - applying for the vedettsegi igazvany in situ is something I only saw in one place and the gentleman at the DCembassy did not mention it (I will be applying for it though through the Kormany Ablak/Ugyfelkapu online later in July.

Awesome info about tests taken at home - my family has been scratching its head how one is supposed to simultaneously obey quarantine rules and get put to do tests if one wishes to curtail quarantine. :)))

Yes, you can get it at the Airport, but results will come in about 1-2 days.

For quick , though not the cheapest test, you can schedule a test from Mobilszures.hu, in that case a nurse visits you in your location (i am only sure about Budapest though)

For a wedding, i might try asking the Embassy for "special entry circumstances", especially if you are fully vaccinated here. maybe similar to bereavement/funeral travel, you might not need the quaranteen in this case, as well.

Have a safe trip,

Thanks for the update Ann-Marie!

This confirms what I suspected - I'm trying to figure out if I can get home for a cousin's wedding (probably can't!) and between the opacity of bureaucratic language, as well as the diversity of information, it is easy to be completely dumbfounded.

One of the questions I am trying to gain clarity on is whether it is possible to obtain an initial *Hungarian* PCR test upon landing in Liszt Ferenc airport, to fulfill step one in curtailing quarantine via negative tests. Did you see any information about this on the ground?

Thanks!

Jo Napot!

I just recently traveled to Budapest on business.  I know there had been some discussion on the procedures getting into the country a few weeks ago so I thought I would share my experience.  The rules on travelling continually change but the short answer is that Hungary, as well as Europe, is not open to tourists just yet.  You can go on business but I needed a permission letter from the Hungarian Embassy which also included a registration with the police department.  These documents allowed me to enter without quarantine.  Covid tests were required both ways and were mainly for the airline.  Masks are not required on the streets or while eating but are required inside and on all public transportation.  Restaurants were open but none of the theaters are open yet.  The csarnok had a few vendors open but it was fairly empty.
