[news] Atheist billboards in Idaho stir controversy

CALDWELL, Idaho (KBOI) - Amongst the bounty of billboards on Caldwell Boulevard, there's a new sign with an unusual message - "Are you good without God? Millions are."

Art Rigsby of Nampa, Idaho, an atheist, said he thinks it's great.

"Well, it's just to let people know, especially the closet atheists, that you are not alone," Rigsby said. "There are millions of people who do not believe in God."

These billboards are the latest in a nationwide effort that is reaching out to people who do not believe in God.

A sign in Boise, located just off the Connector says, "Don't believe in God? Join the club." The billboards are paid for through July by The Treasure Valley Coalition of Reason.

Similar billboards have gone up or are going up in some 32 states - a sign of support, organizers say, for American Atheists and Agnostics.

But the signs are not welcomed by everybody.

"No, I'm not cool with it, but they have the right to say what they want," said Elizabeth Weaver, a Sand Hollow resident.

Stefan Constantine of Boise agrees.

"The only thing i can do is love them, and pray for them," Constantine said.
