[SCOW] June 9, 10 Watch and help run Sailing Races!

Hi Friends,
Want to get a front row seat to some amazing sailboat racing?! If you do, then volunteer to help out on Race Committee with folks from our sister club: Potomac River Sailing Association when they host their Lightning District Championship Regatta here on the Potomac, June 9 and 10! If you'd like to help, then shoot an email to Robert (Astrove@hotmail.com) or Aaron (apb99@mac.com). More details below. It ought to be an awesome couple of days with exciting sailboat racing and fun parties!

Chris

P.S. In other news, I've met a lot of folks in the local lightning fleets and they are really nice, knowledgeable, and welcoming sailors. And though we love them, somehow they've inherited their own Lightning District that is called the "Dixie District". Go figure. All the other Lightning Districts have normal descriptive names like"New England", "SouthEastern", "Southern" etc. So I plan to send a letter to the powers that be to encourage them to update to a name that doesn't evoke the Old South, Confederacy and racism to a lot of folks. Hopefully they won't pick "Bedford Forrest District" for the next one! Kidding, kidding! (mostly)

Hi Chris,

I just wanted to follow up on the brief chat we had a couple of weekends ago at the marina re: RC helpers for our Lightning Fleet's District Championship Regatta on June 9-10.  If you have any SCOW members who might be interested in helping out on RC, let me or Bobby (our Regatta Chair) know -- we'd certainly appreciate any and all help!

Now, you might wonder why somebody would volunteer for RC duty.  Although we welcome anybody with RC experience, no prior experience is really needed.  This is a great chance to learn about the conduct of races (and receive some free training) for those without prior experience.  And there's more!  You'll also get a great color commentary on what the racers are doing!  :-)  What's better than welcoming summer with a day on the water with the memorials and the capitol as a backdrop!

Cheers,
Aaron
