(Career Progress) HIRING: Senior Communications Manager, Community Change

About Community Change and Community Change Action:

Community Change builds the power and capacity of low-income people, especially low-income people of color, to lead powerful and dynamic movements for social change. With our community-based partner groups, we bridge the grassroots and the national, supporting outsider strategies to disrupt the status quo while also building pathways to influence the insider conversation.

Our vision of a better world centers the leadership of impacted people of color to move our work on immigrant rights, economic justice, and racial equity, including a focus on jobs and housing, early childhood care and education, income supports, and immigration reform.

This position also supports Community Change Action, an affiliated 501(c)(4) advocacy organization. While motivated by the same core values – equity, inclusion, and justice – Community Change and Community Change Action operate independently of one another and each organization has its own board of directors.

Position Description:

Senior Communications Manager will play a key role driving the narrative strategy of Community Change/Action immigration campaigns, and the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM)/FIRM Action.

A portion of time will be spent working with Community Change's sister organization, Community Change Action.

Principal Responsibilities:

Senior Communications Manager will develop media and digital strategy in consultation with senior immigration team members, co-chairs of FIRM and other Community Change staff and will include:

  • Pitch stories and develop relationships with media, including Spanish language press to advance pro-immigrant narratives and elevate Community Change and FIRM in the national space.

  • Coordinate media requests, outreach and tracking of news hits.

  • Work alongside digital counterparts to implement digital strategies, including growing social media pages, adding capacity to field partners, and activating SMS and email lists.

  • Produce communications materials, including talking points, media advisories, statements and press releases. Translate materials from English to Spanish as needed.

  • Act as a liaison at public events for press and as a spokesperson as needed.

  • Write high-level content, including op-eds, memos and event scripts.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience working in a Communications department: writing press releases, planning press events, developing media strategies and pitching stories.

  • Top-notch writing, editing, communications and presentation skills.

  • A high degree of comfort in managing multiple tasks and deadlines, and working in a fluid and fast-paced environment.

  • Commitment to social and economic justice, collaborative processes, and the participation and leadership of low-income people and their organizations.

  • Extensive knowledge of immigration and immigration reform.

  • Knowledge of other key issue areas such as poverty and economic justice.

  • Experience in electoral or organizing campaigns strongly preferred.

  • Fluency in Spanish; including the ability to write and copy edit public materials.
