If you are a fit for the below role, or know anyone who is, please do submit!
We are searching for a very special performer to play the American R&B singer, Little Willie John. It is a one-man show that will be presented by Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. The role requires a performer with incredible presence, stamina, and vocal ability.
We are seeking actor submissions for an upcoming world premiere play with music, NEED YOUR LOVE about Little Willie John, the American R&B singer who performed in the 1950's- and early 1960s. He is best known for his successes on the record charts, with songs such as "All Around the World" (1955), "Need Your Love So Bad" (1956), "Talk to Me, Talk to Me" (1958), "Leave My Kitten Alone" (1960), "Sleep" (1960), and his number-one R&B hit "Fever" (1956). He was an important figure in R&B music of the 1950s, he faded into obscurity in the 1960s and died while serving a prison sentence for manslaughter. John was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

NEED YOUR LOVE is a play with music that is part documentary, part fictional solo-show, and part jukebox about the life and death of Little Willie John. The content comes from interviews with John's family, musicians who recorded with him, and extensive research by playwright and director KJ Sanchez. Artistic liberties have been taken in bringing Little Willie John to the stage. All of the music comes from Cincinnati's King Records catalogue.
We are in search of an actor who can embody the spirit of Little Willie John and who can capture the quality in which he sang. This production will be a night of music that sounds like the sound on John's mid-century recordings, rather than contemporary musical theatre styles or approaches.
We are in search of an actor with the stamina required for a one-man show. An appreciation for collaboration is a plus, as this is a world premiere.
NOTE: We are seeking a fully vaccinated company. Actors must be fully vaccinated prior to first rehearsal.
SEEKING:
LITTLE WILLIE JOHN (Male, Black. Late 20s-early 30s). Little Willie is one of the greatest singers there ever was. Small in stature, huge on charm, wit, and charisma. He is quick to anger and never backs down from a fight, no matter how big the opponent. Excellent singer, high tenor. It is essential that actors capture his timing, tone, and energy. Reference mp3s will be provided with audition material.
