(Career Progress) JOB: Progressive Communications Firm Hiring Media Relations Specialist

Media Relations Specialist

Join a fast paced, strategic communications firm that is working with leading labor unions, progressive organizations, nonprofits, voting rights advocates and candidates. As a boutique shop, the firm prides itself on its hands-on approach that puts an unparalleled focus on the success and results of our clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with and serve as right-hand support to firm principal

  • Strategically advise, manage, and execute media campaigns for clients

  • Write and pitch media advisories, press releases, and personalized pitches to a wide variety of journalists

  • Proactively identify opportunities for increasing client press visibility 

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with reporters/editors from local and national media outlets

  • Deliver in-depth media prep and training for client interviews with major publications and outlets  


Qualified Candidates:

  • 3-5 years of communications experience in a firm, agency setting, or related position on a campaign, Capitol Hill or with an organization or news agency

  • Effective and confident leader who is self-motivated 

  • Must thrive on delivering results, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment

  • Strong writing and grammar skills are a must

  • Candidates must be able to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills – a natural listener and communicator

  • Candidates should have a passion for communications, politics, and the 24-hour news cycle 

  • Must be outgoing and a true people person 


This position is salaried, commensurate with experience. This is a position with a central office in Washington, DC., with the option to work completely remotely.
