Digital Organizing Director

Yes on SQ 805

Location flexible


State Question 805 is a proposed constitutional amendment in Oklahoma that would end the use of sentencing penalties for nonviolent crimes. Yes on 805, Inc. has submitted signatures for the initiative and expects to be on the ballot in November 2020. Yes on 805, Inc. is a diverse and bipartisan coalition that includes business and faith leaders, criminal justice reform advocates, and directly impacted people in Oklahoma.

  • Applications are due by Friday, June 12. However, applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled.

  • Those with a history of arrest, conviction, incarceration, or other entanglement with the criminal legal system are strongly encouraged to apply.


Responsibilities

The scope of work is primarily three buckets: 1) social media, 2) email, and 3) distributed organizing, with the goal of establishing an integrated digital strategy.


Social media:

  • Manage Yes on 805's Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

  • Make recommendations on use of other social media channels

  • Draft a comprehensive social media plan through November 2020 that will persuade voters, engage supporters, and grow the campaign's reach

  • Write compelling, creative, and engaging copy for all social media channels that amplifies Yes on 805's messaging, with an emphasis on persuasion and mobilization

  • Think strategically and creatively about how best to use content on each social media channel, including developing creatives specific for particular social media channels

  • Center voices of those directly impacted, respectfully amplifying their personal stories on social media channels

  • Continuously monitor social discovery tools and stay attuned to current events and trending content, identifying strategic engagement opportunities

  • Work with grasstops working group to identify and utilize endorsers with social media influence

  • Work with grassroots working group to amplify online and offline actions and events

  • Work with comms vendor on any Twitter outreach to reporters

  • Provide weekly detailed reports on content performance with recommendations to improve performance and overall social media strategy


Email:

  • Manage Yes on 805's email program

  • Draft overall email plan through November 2020

  • Write compelling, creative, and engaging copy for email blasts that amplifies Yes on 805's messaging and moves volunteers up the ladder of engagement

  • Work with grassroots working group to push out online and offline actions and events

  • Provide weekly detailed reports on email performance with recommendations to improve performance and overall email strategy


Distributed organizing:

  • Ensure the distributed organizing plans and strategies are folded into the social media and email programs

  • Assist in overseeing use of digital voter contact and mobilization tools, including providing training to volunteers and coalition partners

  • Work with grassroots working group and coalition partners in engaging in distributed organizing

  • Draft compelling and engaging content for peer-to-peer texting

  • Funnel hot leads generated through the social media and email programs into the distributed organizing program


Other:

  • Assist in coordinating with website vendor on any significant website changes

  • Make minor updates and edits to the website

  • Create RSVP landing pages for online and offline actions and events

  • Assist in coordinating with storytelling and ad vendor on digital ad design

  • Participate in coalition meetings and calls, as well as working group meetings and calls


Qualifications

  • Prior experience or knowledge of criminal justice reform preferred

  • Experience managing social media channels and email programs

  • Exceptional writing skills with a wide array of tone and personality

  • Experience with graphic design, video editing, and developing creatives

  • Experience using digital outreach for storytelling

  • Familiarity with ActionNetwork and Team, or similar, preferred

  • Knowledge of VAN and an understanding of field metrics 

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines 

  • Good sense of humor and ability to adapt to a fast paced, changing work environment 

  • Ability to work long and irregular hours, including some nights and weekends 

  • Experience working remotely

  • Willingness and availability to travel to Oklahoma as needed


Compensation

This is a short-term, independent contractor position. The monthly salary is set at $7,000.
