National Nurses United (NNU), a dynamic and forward-thinking union is looking for an energetic and skilled legislative and political assistant to join its efforts to transform health care, invigorate the movement for progressive social change, and empower its growing membership of nurses across the country. 

 

The person chosen for this exciting new opportunity will provide crucial research, political, legislative and administrative assistance to the work of the Legislative and Political Directors. This will include  helping to conduct outreach to members of Congress, assisting us in connecting NNU’s membership to our legislative agenda, and developing materials needed for Hill and public outreach. In addition, this position will assist the Political Director as needed on campaigns in the U.S. and in developing the infrastructure for a  new global nurses alliance, working with allies around the globe.

 

Working closely with the Legislative and Political staff, the legislative and political assistant  will be charged with managing multiple priorities, developing written products for the Web and use in Hill visits, conducting research into pressing public policy areas, setting up Hill meetings and reports, and other support-related tasks as needed. This person may also attend relevant meetings, events and Hill briefings as needed, and would assist the Political Director in mailing, collecting and organizing campaign questionnaires and related materials during the busy upcoming election season.

 

This individual must be a self-starter with an interest in politics and a keen eye for opportunity. Excellent writing and research skills, both online and off, knowledge of organizing principles and social movements, and sound political judgment are also required. The ideal candidate will have some congressional, advocacy, or political campaign experience, or have worked as a student leader or organizer for a cause. Proficiency in simple databases such as Excel is required. Applicants must be able  to work successfully on their own and as part of a team.

 

Compensation: Competitive salary and benefits (defined benefit pension plus 401k, employer paid family medical coverage, including domestic partner coverage).
