Online Communications Manager

The National Organizations for Women is the nation's premiere grassroots political advocacy organization fighting for the equality of all women. Through our hundreds of chapters and state organizations in all 50 states and the District of Columbia and hundreds of thousands of members, activists and contributing supporters, we advocate every day for reproductive rights and justice; ending racism, achieving lesbian rights, ending violence against women; including women´s equality in the U.S. Constitution; and economic justice for all women.

NOW was an early adopter of online tools for grassroots organizing, and has built a powerful online presence.  We are looking for an Online Communications Manager who will help keep the organization at the cutting edge and expand its technology-fueled activism for women's rights and justice.

About the Position:
The Online Communications Manager should be an experienced online campaigner with a strong background in utilizing online multichannel strategies (web, social media, mobile, etc.) to engage activists and donors.  The ideal candidate will have a history of proven success in internet marketing, web project development, and managing web vendors.  Previous experience working with a national nonprofit organization with community-based affiliates is a bonus.

The Online Communications Manager is an integral part of NOW's communications team and is responsible for the execution of the strategic plan for NOW´s online presence that promotes the organization´s mission, enhances and elevates its brand, broadens its reach, and strengthens its grassroots impact.

Responsibilities:
o       Oversee the formatting and sending of NOW´s action alerts, petitions, bi-weekly newsletter, press releases, online fundraising & membership development, and other online outreach through the Salsa Labs CRM;
o       Develop strategies to grow NOW´s email list, and create creative campaigns that engage our current supporters and recruit new ones around our key issue areas including reproductive rights and justice, LGBT equality, ending racism and violence, and economic justice for all women;
o       Market NOW campaigns and marketing initiatives through multiple channels ranging from our website to social media;
o       Lead the ongoing re-design and development of NOW´s flagship website, blog, and subsidiary websites;
o       Lead the development and execution of an integrated plan for growing the organization's online presence that advances NOW´s mission and goals, strengthens its brand, and broadens the impact of its grassroots work;
o       Collaborate with NOW staff to assess needs for and to produce online and printed materials, including web stories, blog posts, social media content, legislative alerts, fundraising appeals and other online content;
o       Oversee the posting of photos, videos, other media, and website content, and revision / archiving of outdated content;
o       Serve as the principal point of contact for NOW´s web host, online consultants and other vendors as needs arise. Track, report and assess the performance of all aspects of NOW´s online communications and propose strategies to improve response rates.
o       Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
o       Three to five years´ experience in online advocacy, fundraising, marketing, communications and strategy, including: knowledge of online content management systems such as WordPress and HTML; experience managing internet marketing and advocacy systems such as Salsa Labs CRM; analyzing web analytics; and developing content for the web, social media and other outreach channels;
o       Demonstrated experience in strategic online communications, positioning, problem-solving, and creative thinking;
o       A clear grasp of activist and donor engagement strategies and their relationship to building a robust set of resources for online advocacy, grassroots organizing and fundraising;
o       Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines, work under pressure, handle simultaneous assignments and work within a team setting;
o       Commitment to NOW´s mission, purpose and values; knowledge of NOW´s structure and involvement in feminist issues a real plus;
o       A bachelor´s degree is required; an advanced degree in communications or new media is desirable;

Location: National NOW Action Center, 1100 H Street NW, Suite 300, Washington, D.C. (one block from Metro Center).
