Dear Paul,
Although we appreciate your comments, I wonder if your had a chance to read the correct program notes which may be fond on
www.cami.com. I was not at the show, so I do not know about the amplification, but I do now Kimmel Center, it is fantastic hall for acoustic instruments - one of the world's best. So I am not surprised if the sound person had a a difficult time with the amplification, since this was the only and one time they amplified this show. You could be a little forgiving, if you consider it is a tour, and a different location venue for each evening's performance.
I am happy you liked the dancing and you seem to be a little familiar with them. The show is a continuous spectacle of Hungarian folk-dance and folk music, a most enjoyable, seamless flow of different regional folklore from the Carpathian Basin. Your comments about "trunckation" is inappropriate, may be a show of misunderstanding the performance concept.
Finally, if you read the program notes and if you view the program, there are no dances from the village of Szék [Sic] in the show - that is the reason why you did not see the "proper hats" and blue vests, may be you confused the dance from and other region?
Therefore, I recommend, with the best respect, try to see the show again, they will be in New Brunswick, close to Philadelphia, on the 9th at 3 PM. May be a second take will help to better understand and appreciate the fantastic presentation of Hungarian folklore.
With genuine friendship,
Kalman

Hello All.
I just saw this show in Philadelphia (Kimmel Center) yesterday. Excellent dancing, choreography and beautiful colorful dresses. The music however was over-amplified, and disturbingly stressed the base. Also, the music was rather a bit eclectic, not always peasant music or form of presentation. The musicians were all right though, although the cimbalom was a bit suppressed, again by the sound control team. When you can hear the violonist breathe (because the violin mounted microphone is too heavily amplified) you surely know, something is amiss.
The overall dance-troupe was doing quite well and we missed a male solo singer. The many different pieces were truncated and were not separately announced, so that was a bit of a disappointment. Dancers presenting traditional dances from the village of Szék (Transsylvania) didn´t wear the proper cut peasant hats and blue wests...
