GALVANIZE: Your Art Matters....

Dearest Beautiful Theatricals,

What a mighty mighty thing it is that you do as Artists. You hold up a mirror and show the world who it is. And you show the world who it could be. You do so by leading with your heart and sharing generous portions of your soul.

You give of yourselves; body, mind and spirit. You so deeply draw from the wellspring of your own humanity with the hope and goal to remind the world of ITS humanity.

And there are most assuredly times when we may feel "what's the point?".

Sometimes we are given a cruel reminder of the importance of our work. Through every artistic endeavor you engage in, you remind the world of its humanity. It can be an excruciating journey at times; a journey that may feel like an unending, unrequited quest.

But I tell you...it matters. You matter. What you do...matters. The Art you make Matters. Maybe now more than ever. We are the Chroniclers, The Storytellers, the facilitators of change. Art Saves Lives.

What I witnessed at the Wednesday morning performance of THE BALLAD OF EMMETT TILL at Mosaic Theatre Company, just days after the UVA shooting which happened only hours after those UVA students had attended one of the TILL TRILOGY plays, was a reminder of what we give and how challenging the giving can be at times. The cast of the TILL TRILOGY performed with aplomb. It was incredible to experience. Thank you, TILL company.🙏🏾

Sending condolences and prayers of comfort and uplift to the University of Virginia community, near and far, including some of our own Galvanize family. And sending gratitude to our own Theatre community for doing the hard work of shining a Light of Humanity so brightly in a world that, at times, is so fervently resistant to any Light.

Yet our work continues. Because we...you...are needed.
