TENTATIVE PROJECT START DATE: APRIL, 2023
LOGLINE: Set in Washington, DC, The Dream and The Come Up tells the story of Rob Johnson, an up-and-coming comedian as he fights to save a struggling comedy career and a failing relationship in the midst of a pandemic.
CAST LIST/ROLES AND DESCRIPTIONS
MRS. JOHNSON – ROB JOHNSON'S MOTHER – Black – 50s/60s
Caring, loving, but also stern; a mom. Think Jenifer Lewis in movies where she plays a mom, which is most of her movies.
MS. HANES – MRS. JOHNSON'S FRIEND – Black – 50s/60s
Similar to Mrs. Johnson, she, too, is a mom. She cares about her friend and her family. She is the neighbor that always looks out. She is the one that will always make sure the neighborhood kids are good when their parents are not around. All the kids looked up to her as their second mom.
EARL – ROB JOHNSON'S MANAGER – Black – Male – Mid to late 30s
Calm, laid back; about two years older than Rob so he is like a big brother to him. He is the only one in the group (Rob and his friends) that is married, so he sees things from a more mature perspective. He is the voice of reason in the group; the one that makes sure everything and everyone is centered.
OBIANUJU – ROB JOHNSON'S NIGERIAN GIRLFRIEND – Black – Female – Early 30s
Sweet personality; charming; gorgeous. Very opinionated. Yet, she has a reserved trait to her. Ambitious; a boss. Her steps are clothe in confidence; her strides are dipped in classiness. Chocolate or brown-skinned; curvy. Per looks, think Meagan Good, Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan.
CHIOMA – OBIANUJU'S SISTER – Black – Female – 20s
A couple of years younger than Obianuju. Very bubbly personality; she's very animated. Never afraid to speak her mind. In-your-face, very extroverted attitude.
DR. VERONICA GARCIA – Hispanic – Female – Late 30s, Early 40s
Shows care and concern but does not get too emotionally attached; your typical doctor.
BIG MIKE – ROB JOHNSON'S NEIGHBOR – Black – Male – Early 40s
Pot-belly/heavy-set; believes in all types of conspiracy theories, thinks 9/11 was an inside job; does not trust the government. Per looks, think comedian Bruce Bruce or Big Worm (Faizon Love) from the movie, Friday.
YARITSA – ROB JOHNSON'S CO-WORKER – Hispanic – 20s
Two words: Feisty and Ferocious. Think Tina (Rosie Perez) from Do the Right Thing.
WOMAN ATTITUDE – Black – Female – 20s or 30s
Loud, rambunctious. Dark or chocolate. Plus-size. In terms of attitude, think comedian Luenell
