Low-income and working class DC residents are saddled with devastating debt collection suits. The economic impacts of the pandemic remain especially pronounced among Black and Latino adults.
Civil legal disputes can have such life-altering consequences as the loss of a driver's license, having a bank account garnished, and being unable to secure a job.
In many cases, access to legal help can make a dramatic difference.
A neighbor works with Tzedek DC, a nonprofit whose work helps people grappling with some of the financial consequences of long-standing inequities.
Tzedek provides free legal services to DC residents who meet the Federal Poverty Guidelines and are facing legal problems arising from debt.
*We have an intake and referral line and staff on hand who speak Spanish*. You can reach us at (202) 274-7386 or email us at rg@tzedekdc.org
If you know of a neighbor who is facing debt related legal issues, we may be able to help them deal with debt collectors, lawsuits, credit report problems, identity theft, and scams at no cost.
