We have been in the midst of an epic time in our world dealing with a pandemic, tragic loss, economic devastation, shutdowns, transitions and now war. However, we have been resilient in our discovery of re-imagining the way to be creative causing us to transform how we produce theatrical work. We are excited to share with you new programming content that will move us forward and offer a hopeful perspective on our future. Under the New Voices New Works Studio, we are presenting Transition/Transformation Play Festival. In the month of April each weekend will feature presentations thematically based on some form of Transition and or Transformation. We are extremely proud to be collaborating with local artist in the DC metropolitan theater community.

The weekend of April 1-3, 2022, we are introducing Theater After Dark. I know most of you are saying doesn't most theatrical productions happen at night!?!? Yes! This presentation will occur in our upcoming season at non-traditional performance times. You can come Play at the House of Anacostia with our featured guest African American Collective Theater and Brave Soul Collective in a club show atmosphere. We will explore mature themes in this series dealing with issues that surround the LGBTQ community.

A Requiem for Black Bodies is a contemporary urban production in

remembrance of Black people traumatized by racism and violence in the United States. Our aim is to sit with this historical and ongoing trauma inflicted upon Black people in America and move to a state of reflection, healing, and action through imagery, music, spoken word, dance, meditation and ritual. The Requiem is in four parts: the lament, the silence, the

healing, and the activism. A Requiem for Black Bodies is created and directed by Dr. Renee K. Harrison, professor of African American and U.S. Religious History at Howard University School of Divinity.

*There will be a talkback after each performance*

Keeping You Safe

The safety of our patrons, performers and staff are our top priority. This is why the Anacostia Playhouse has joined our colleagues in the theater community in requiring proof of vaccination for indoor, in-person productions. In addition, audience members will be required to wear masks except when eating or drinking. Visit anacostiaplayhouse.com/vaccination-update/ for full details and policies.
