GALVANIZE: YPT Hiring Administrative Assistant (part-time, $20/hr)

Administrative Assistant

Young Playwrights' Theater (YPT) seeks a part-time (20 hours per week) Administrative Assistant to develop and implement systems of organization, communication, records management, and document creation that support the core work of YPT. This position will report to the Executive Director.

This position is currently virtual but will shift to in-person when YPT assesses it is safe for staff to return to regular work at our headquarters in Washington DC's Takoma neighborhood.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for arts education, theater, young people, and advancing racial justice. They will have strong written and oral communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite, experience with developing organizational systems and maintaining business and financial records, and an eye for detail. They will be committed to accomplishing goals and finishing projects in a fast-paced environment. 

Qualifications

We prefer at least one year of experience providing administrative support, ideally for a nonprofit organization. We are seeking candidates who excel in arts administration, are methodicaldetail- and systems-oriented, and have strong organizational skills

YPT seeks a culturally competent co-worker dedicated to affirming the brilliance of our students, the belief that creative expression and theater are valuable tools for education, and a commitment to high-quality arts education that centers the experience of all young people, especially those who voices are often minimized. Black people, Indigenous people, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Candidates should have:

  • A track record of providing excellent administrative support, ideally in an arts or nonprofit environment 

  • Experience with developing and implementing effective systems of organization 

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, office phone systems, and CRM databases (YPT uses Arts People web-based software for CRM, ticketing, and program enrollment)

  • Strong writing and copyediting skills

  • Availability to work four hours each weekday between 9am and 5pm, and to remotely monitor the YPT Programs email during each shift

  • Availability to work virtually for now, and in-person in Washington, DC when it is safe to do so

  • Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends 

  • A demonstrated commitment to meeting a high bar and a history of getting things done in the face of obstacles

  • Experience managing multiple projects and ability to take the initiative to create new projects during slower periods

  • Knowledge of ways white supremacy, heteropatriarchy, ableism, and other systems of oppression manifest in society and within institutions, and a commitment to dismantling racism and oppression

Salary and Benefits

This position is part-time (20 hours per week), compensated at $20 per hour. Benefits include paid vacation, personal, and sick leave, paid holidays, fully paid family and medical leave, employer-sponsored medical, dental, and vision insurance with Flexible Spending Account, Home Office Benefit Account, 403(b) plan, and Long-term Disability Insurance.
