Marketing and Communications Manager


Position Summary 

The Marketing and Communications Manager is the primary copywriter and producer of online content and print materials for Motor House. S/he works with the Motor House team in the development of communications strategies and is responsible for ensuring consistent messaging across platforms, and for developing marketing plans for rentals and in-house productions. 


The Marketing and Communications Manager will convey complex stories in understandable language to internal and external stakeholders, help us reach new audiences and raise awareness of Motor House programs and their impact, and assist with press relations and organization and maintenance of press lists and media archives. 


The Marketing and Communications Manager reports to the Executive Director. 


Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Manage development and day-to-day communications and content strategies 

  • Serves as primary copywriter for all public material including e-newsletters, press releases, social media posts, and website copy 

  • Work collaboratively to ensure public relations and publications activities are aligned with strategic focus 

  • Seek organic opportunities and support proactive media outreach efforts to niche media and influential bloggers 

  • Respond to media inquiries and general inquiries from the public as necessary 

  • Develop and manage productive relationships with diverse constituencies of artists, partner organizations, board members, and funders. 

  • Organize and maintain press lists and media archives.  

  • Lead the research and development of a strategic communications plan 

  • Operate as the primary contact for all media sources 

  • Proofread and edit marketing and communications copy

The Marketing and Communications Manager will have the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with shifting deadlines and priorities. 


The ideal candidate will possess superior writing skills, has strong relationships with local and national media outlets, and experience curating and producing content for digital media, including newsletters, e-blasts and social media platforms. 


Qualifications 

  • Minimum of 3 years related work experience 

  • Exceptional writing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills 

  • Expertise in marketing research and strategy 

  • Graphic design skills 

  • Excellent written and verbal skills with attention to audience, tone and nuance 

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships internally and externally 

  • Self-starter able to work independently


Preferred Qualifications and Experience 

  • Experience in marketing and communications for a small to mid-sized nonprofit organization 

  • Professional experience with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram 

  • Bilingual Spanish and English writing ability 


The person should have a portfolio demonstrating strong written communication skills. 


Compensation and Benefits 

This is a salaried, full time, exempt position. Benefits include a competitive health plan, paid time off, and retirement options. The salary is commensurate with experience.
