Inaugural Conference of the Hungarian Cultural Association
April 5 and 6, 2014
Indiana University
Bloomington, Indiana
The Hungarian Cultural Association and Department of Central Eurasian Studies of Indiana University will host an interdisciplinary conference on topics related to Hungary on April 5-6, 2014. Economist and Visiting Fulbright Professor István Benczes will deliver the keynote address.
We welcome proposals from graduate students and recent PhDs on any topic related to Hungary, its neighbor states, and its diaspora, in any discipline or methodology, including but not limited to history, political science, economics, sociology, anthropology, folklore, literature, linguistics, musicology, and ethnomusicology. We encourage interdisciplinary approaches.
The conference complements related events at Indiana University that same weekend, including the Russian and East European Institute’s Roundtable on Post-Communism (this year’s theme: “Cybersecurity and Cyberspace”) on April 4, the Romanian Studies Conference on April 4-5, and performances by cimbalom player and NEA National Heritage Fellow Nicolae Ferraru.
Please submit abstracts of 250-300 words, along with your contact information, to jvincz@indiana.edu by February 10, 2014. We will send notifications by February 24. In the interest of lively discussion, we expect participants to submit their papers by March 24 and share feedback with fellow panelists.
Any inquiries about the conference may be directed to conference organizers Jason Vincz <jvincz@indiana.edu> or Lynn Hooker <lhooker@indiana.edu>
Please forward this request for proposals to anyone who might be interested.
