This could be a fun evening for those of you interested in environmental issues:
"Large volcanic eruptions suggest that the Earth could be cooled
quickly with relatively small amounts of fine particles placed in the
stratosphere to deflect sunlight. Some argue that such geoengineering
research is needed to understand whether the risks of climate change
can be reduced in this way. Others claim that this research might
suggest an easy fix to the climate problem, thereby encouraging
increased greenhouse gas emissions and threatening possible harmful
impacts. Leaders in the field will discuss the potential benefits,
risks, and challenges of geoengineering.
The event is free and open to the public. The lecture will last
approximately one hour. Register at
http://capitalscience1-unicum.eventbrite.com"
The Washington Post is going to publish an interview about this topic
either this weekend or on Monday with Ken Caldeira, and Christopher
Field, both of them from the Carnegie Institution for Science.
