(Career Progress) Program Associate (American Association for the Advancement of Science-Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion (DoSER) Program


AAAS Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion (DoSER) Program has an excellent opportunity for a Program Associate. Reporting to the Associate Program Director, you will be responsible for working on a project entitled "Engaging Scientists in the Science and Religion Dialogue." The project supports scientists and science communicators in inclusive, evidence-based science engagement with diverse religious publics through engagement toolkits, print and online resources, hosted science engagement events, and professionally facilitated workshops. Are you ready to be a Force for Science? What You'll Do • Work closely with other AAAS staff to collaboratively develop and run project activities such as workshops, webinars, and public events • Assist in developing print and video resources to support inclusive public engagement about science, with a focus on religious publics and institutions; • Work with other AAAS divisions to promote public understanding of and engagement with science; •
Speak about and promote DoSER and broader AAAS activities at science events, including regional and national conferences and meetings; • Assist in the development of new initiatives for the DoSER program; • Support other DoSER program activities as needed Minimum Qualifications • Master's degree in the biological, physical or social sciences; PhD preferred • Sincere interest and/or experience in inclusive science engagement, particularly with religious publics • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills • Experience in science education (formal or informal), science communication and/or public speaking • Experience organizing, presenting, and/or implementing workshops and public events, particularly in academic settings such as scientific society meetings or university campuses • Ability to travel at least five times annually • Familiarity with Microsoft Office • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and/or other graphic design programs is preferred • Experience with database development and management (e.g. MS Access, SQL) is preferred • Experience with website design (e.g., Wordpress, Drupal) is preferred • Experience with online media and communication (including Twitter, personal or professional blogging; participation and/or moderation of online forums) is preferred • Experience in grant-writing and/or fundraising is preferred Application Process Submit a resume, cover letter outlining qualifications and interest in the position, and one writing sample by August 8, 2019.
