Join Our New Communication Team!
Do you believe deeply that all children should have access to a high-quality 21st century education and be fully prepared for the challenges of our fast-changing, knowledge-based society?
Do you want to help change the national public discussion about education and bridge the gap between research and policymaking in pre-K–12 education?
Do you think you would thrive in a nonprofit startup environment in which communication is seen as core to the mission?
The Institute for Education Policy (our temporary name) is a newly created think tank. We help the people who shape public policy create evidence-based education policies—grounded in objective, non-partisan research—that address the complex realities facing public schools and their communities every day. The Institute has long-term philanthropic support and is headquartered in Palo Alto, CA, with an office in Washington, DC.
We are offering a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor of building a first class, national communication program for the Institute. We're looking for exceptionally bright, passionate and effective communicators who play well with others. We have a Chief Communication Officer (CCO) and Director, Editorial in place. We are currently hiring three positions. All require outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Press and Media Strategist – This manager-level position will have daily responsibility for relationships with, and outreach to, reporters, editors, producers, bloggers, opinion leaders and influencers. Provide strategic guidance, planning and support to communication campaigns surrounding our research and policy efforts. Washington DC office preferred.
Digital Strategist – This manager-level position will serve as project manager and main point of daily contact with the vendor selected to develop our web site. Once the site is launched, will become the site's super-user, maintaining and extending the site as necessary. Provides strategic guidance, planning and support to communication campaigns surrounding our research and policy efforts. Palo Alto office preferred.
Communication Specialist – This associate-level position can reside in either the Washington DC or Palo Alto office. Requires both general communication skills and an expertise in one or (preferably) more of the following areas:
· Social media strategy and tools
· Graphic and visual design
· Multimedia storytelling (photography, audio, video)
· Writing/editing/storytelling/repurposing content
· Web design and development, web and podcasting, emerging technologies
· MS Office: Expert-level skills, especially PowerPoint and Excel (charts and graphs)
· Press and media relations
While we are still developing formal job descriptions, we are currently accepting applications to join our team. Salary will depend on years of experience and level of expertise.
To apply:
· Submit a resume, three work samples (at least one of which must be a piece of writing), and a cover letter indicating where you think your experience and skills can best contribute to our team. Include when you can be available and an office location preference if you have one.
· Send pdf versions and links to CommStaffing@educationresearch.org
· NOTE: Incomplete applications or those not following the above instructions will NOT be considered!
We are an equal opportunity employer. Candidates of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
