Chief of Staff – My Brother's Keeper Alliance

Organization Description

My Brother's Keeper Alliance ("MBK Alliance") was recently formed and functions as a non-profit operating under the fiscal sponsorship of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. MBK Alliance's vision is to make the American Dream available to all boys and young men of color (BYMOC) by eliminating opportunity gaps. The organization's mission is to unite leaders across sectors, mobilize resources, and provide infrastructure support for a national movement to improve life outcomes for BYMOC. MBK Alliance is based in New York City. The organization is in a startup phase and plans for significant growth in the coming months.

Position Summary

The Chief of Staff will be instrumental in ensuring MBK Alliance's operational effectiveness during the startup phase and as it scales its operations. The position will require close support of and coordination with the leadership team, as well as the interim operational support team from Deloitte Consulting.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Management Team Leadership: Proactively manages and prioritizes work streams and activities for core management staff, monitors ongoing activities, and ensures their timely and high-quality delivery of work products

Leadership Team Relations: Responsible for drafting leadership team meeting agendas, driving effective meetings, and supporting leadership team member requests

Fundraising and Corporate Engagement Support: Assures ongoing and timely tracking and follow-up of fundraising and corporate engagement efforts

Communications and Stakeholder Outreach: Provides ongoing support to communications and stakeholder outreach, including direct engagement with select stakeholders and coordination with outsourced communications / PR service providers to assure consistent and unified messaging

Coordination with operational support team: Acts as a liaison and operational counterpart to the consulting team currently providing operational support to the organization, ensuring timely and efficient information flow

Strategic Initiatives: Supports strategic projects identified by the leadership team

 

Key Qualifications

The Chief of Staff is critical to the success of MBK Alliance and must be passionate about the organization's mission and vision. S/he will also be coordinating with high-level and high profile business leaders, celebrities, and government officials, and therefore must maintain a very high level of professionalism and discretion.

Other qualifications include:

• Exceptional interpersonal skills and executive presence; ability to establish trust and rapport with high-level stakeholders

• Highly organized, with excellent project management skills and the ability to analyze and synthesize information quickly and succinctly

 

 

• Outstanding writing, presentation / facilitation, and communications skills

• Bachelor's degree required, a relevant advanced degree is desired

• Minimum of eight years relevant work experience, preferably in a fast paced / demanding working environment. Experience working in a startup and / or corporate environment is a significant plus

Development Coordinator – My Brother's Keeper Alliance

 Position Summary

The Development Coordinator will be instrumental in supporting development at all levels of MBK Alliance with a focus on identifying new and supporting existing partnerships to meet the Alliance's fundraising goals. The position will require close support of and coordination with the leadership team, as well as the interim operational support team from Deloitte Consulting.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 Support development activities to execute on MBK Alliance's fundraising strategy and goals, including developing and updating fundraising-related PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, bios for outreach, and other documents as needed; coordinating logistics for key meetings with potential and existing donors

 Conduct research to identify potential fundraising targets and corporate partners; assist with building value proposition presentations for MBK Alliance leadership to share with potential partners

 Supporting existing relationships with individuals and private sector organizations committed to supporting the development of MBK Alliance

 Interface with leadership team regarding fundraising and other development needs

Assisting with special projects as needed for leadership

 

Key Qualifications

The Development Coordinator is critical to the success of MBK Alliance and must be passionate about the organization's mission and vision. S/he will also be responsible for helping ensure MBK Alliance's future success through fundraising and partnerships and therefore must have the ability to effectively establish and support impactful partnerships, anticipate needs, prioritize, and multi-task. Other qualifications include:

 Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to establish trust and rapport with high-level stakeholders, and anticipate the needs of partners and team

 Highly organized with a strong attention to detail and the ability to respond to needs efficiently and effectively

 Excellent verbal and written communication skills with individuals of all levels; strong focus on relationship building; team player mentality and ability to work collaboratively with others

 Demonstrated professionalism and discretion working with highly confidential information; comfort with ambiguity

 

 

 Highly motivated, can-do attitude, self-starter and able to work with little or no supervision; must be proactive and solution-oriented, looking for ways to add value and assist the team; ability to work well under pressure and respond to tight deadlines

 Fully proficient on all Microsoft products including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook

 A Bachelor's degree and at least two years of experience in a fast-paced work environment, development, or campaign work a plus

 Serve as the first point of contact for executives and develop systems to prioritize executives' time and activities

 Establish and maintain effective and cooperative professional relationships with all levels of management and employees

 Assist with developing and updating PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and other documents as needed; prepare materials and handouts for team and leadership team meetings, including printing, binding, and collating

 Draft correspondence, answer and screen phone calls, and direct inquiries to the proper party within the organization in both English and Spanish

 Manage senior executive calendars: schedule meetings and travel, group events, and other appearances / commitments

 Play a leadership role in the facilitation and coordination of communications and administrative procedures across the staff

Support special projects as needed for leadership
