Organizer

The Campaign for Free College Tuition is hiring an Organizer for the summer of 2015. If you are interested in digital organizing, higher education reform and college affordability, this is the perfect position for you. The Organizer will tap into CFCT’s budding national online community to build strong relationships between the organization and supporters of free college tuition on the ground. The Organizer will work directly with the campaign’s leadership and specifically, the digital and communications directors. Responsibilities will include outreach to CFCT’s list of engaged supporters, distribution of resource kit materials, event organizing, seeding and measuring the viability of potential free college programs started by CFCT’s supporters, and assisting with state level Promise program initiatives. The Organizer will also head up networking efforts with CFCT’s many partner organizations with the aim of strengthening these relationships to enhance CFCT’s on-the-ground programming.

CFCT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to educate parents, students, the higher education community, policy makers and taxpayers about efforts needed to fundamentally reform our nation’s system for financing higher education. We believe free college tuition is a goal that is supported by people of all political persuasions and are proud to have both major parties represented in our leadership. In the summer of 2015, CFCT will be organizing our supporter base to advocate for the expansion of Promise Programs across the country.

The Organizer position is based in Washington, D.C. at the offices of Veracity Media (CFCT’s digital team), a cutting-edge digital firm that works with some of the leading campaigns and advocacy organizations in the country. The position will be supervised and directed by one of Veracity Media's, Senior Consultants. State organizing work will be done at the direction of CFCT’s Communications Director.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing CFCT organizing plan
  • Direct, one-to-one outreach to CFCT supporters over phone, email and social media
  • Disseminating CFCT’s resource kit and other free college tuition materials
  • Event organizing; remotely organizing free college meetups and meetings where there is interest
  • Networking with CFCT partner organizations to organize free college events and tap into new sources of support for the organization
  • Mapping out CFCT’s supporter community in the organization’s NationBuilder database
  • Create strategies to reach out in CFCT partner states to supportive organizations and influencers to promote the idea of free college tuition
  • Create effective digital and offline campaign materials to support the work of CFCT

What we’re looking for (none are required):

  • 1 - 2 cycles of campaign organizing experience
  • Strong writing background
  • Strong social media or digital organizing background
  • Higher Ed issues advocacy experience
  • College campus organizing experience
  • NationBuilder organizing experience

This is a full time organizer position (40-50 hours per week). The position pays $3,000/month (36k/yr; tax withholdings apply) and is D.C. based. Healthcare is available. Phone stipend is available. Ideal term for this position is May - August; the position is not guaranteed beyond 8/31/15.
