Under the general direction of the Director of Public Policy, working from our Silver Springs office, the Legislative Advocate's primary focus will be to advance our organization's objectives through the union's legislative program. This includes but is not limited to execution and evaluation of NNU's legislative program, organizing membership involvement, and specifically promoting our agenda through the governmental and regulatory processes with testimony, and lobbying. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for the right person to make a real difference for healthcare justice.
Essential Requirements:
• Demonstrated ability to independently execute federal legislative campaigns
• Highly evolved communications skills
• Ability to build relationships with potential allies
Preferred Experience:
• Bachelor of Arts
• 5+ years of professional experience in the field of legislative and union advocacy
• 2+ years of professional experience working in the labor movement
• 2+ years lobbying experience
• Demonstrated written and analytical skills
• Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of governmental relations and related issues
• Experience in a public role as a social advocate
• Demonstrated familiarity with healthcare issues
