My name is Yana, and I lived in Budapest in 2010-2011, taught English for a year and absolutely fell in love with Hungarian culture, language, music and cuisine! I met amazing new friends there who inspired me to keep learning Hungarian and keep in touch with the Hungarian diaspora community when I moved back to the U.S.
So, I just wanted to share a virtual event I will be participating in this October... the Hungarian Heritage Expo, presented by Hungarian Living, online on October 5-9th, 2026.
I attended last year and I loved it! This year, Liz Szabó Vos from Hungarian Living, asked me to make a short presentation about why & how I started the Hungarian NoVA meetup group, which meets in-person in Herndon, VA monthly and online for Hungarian conversation groups. Look for my presentation under "Yana Galindo, Cultural Connections, Building Community Within the Hungarian Diaspora" during the event to hear the story!
"The Hungarian Heritage Expo is an ONLINE celebration of Hungarian heritage and culture!
October 5-9th, 202640+ new sessions on Hungarian food, language, folk art, history, family stories, genealogy, and more — wherever you’re starting from, there’s a place to jump in.
And it is free!"
"Presenters are joining us from Hungary, Australia, Transylvania, Israel, and the United States, each bringing something worth hearing — genealogy tips, food traditions, history, family stories, and more. It's a genuine chance to learn something new, and to feel a little less alone in caring about where you come from."
"The Expo is free and 100% online, so you can join right from home — and everything is presented in English."
If interested in attending, you can register here: https://hungarianheritageexpo.com
And to join in any of the Hungarian meetups I run, please visit my Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/hungariannovameetupgroup
or email me at colibri8022@gmail.com to get on the email list for either in-person meetups or the free online groups I facilitate. The more, the merrier!
Remélem, ott találkozunk! Hope to see you there!
Üdv, Yana
