Re: [Unicum] grinding poppy seed

Whatever grinder you buy, be sure to only grind poppyseed in it because if the smell of what you're grinding is strong—coffee, for example— the grinder will take on the smell of what you put into them and it overpowers the smell, and to an extent the taste,  of the next ingredient you put in it. 

As for where to buy grinders:

(1) AMAZON.com (one of mine is from there; 2 I inherited from my Mom; I also bought an old-fashioned marble mortar and pestle);

(2) eBay. You can find both new and used, including vintage European;

(3) Specialty culinary stores such as Williams & Sonoma (you have your choice of in-store locations in major cities of several stat and their online catalogue);

(4) Various Restaurant Supply Stores-check you locality for brick-and-mortar stores plus there are several such online stores.

(5) Some European pastry and specialty stores and catalogues might have them. I didn't find any on this website--THE TASTE OF GERMANY--but they might have connections who sell grinders. They're in a suburb of Washington, D.C.  I bet they have contacts in Europe. Couldn't hurt to ask:

If you use an electric one, make sure that you don't put much poppy seed into it at once, add a bit of sugar to make the batch
drier otherwise it binds together and that kills the engine AND have patience to allow the mashine to cool down.

My Mother's electric small coffegrinder worked for 45 years in socialisHungary.

Let me know if you find a good solution. I killed 3 grinders in 25 years here.
