Yes, a big coffee grinder, and with sugar. The sugar is the secret.  

 

Where do you get that much poppy seeds from in the US without spending a fortune on it?

If you use an electric one, make sure that you don't put much poppy seed into it at once, add a bit of sugar to make the batch
drier otherwise it binds together and that kills the engine AND have patience to allow the mashine to cool down.

 

My Mother's electric small coffegrinder worked for 45 years in socialisHungary.

 

Let me know if you find a good solution. I killed 3 grinders in 25 years here.
