(Career Progress) HIRING: Communications Coordinator

Civic Nation seeks a Communications Coordinator to support the Communications team through the 2024 election cycle. This position will work closely with the Communications team to support the day-to-day operations of the organization's external communications and manage internal processes to help ensure the efficiency and efficacy of the broader organization. This role is a temporary position supporting the When We All Vote initiative through November 2024.

The communications team is focused on telling the story of Civic Nation's work. Through creative messaging, digital activations, media relations and more the communications team lifts up the work of all Civic Nation initiatives and campaigns.

YOUR IMPACT

  • Maintain and manage internal press assets including press inboxes and communications outreach applications (Mailchimp, Cision).
  • Create written materials, including press releases, talking points, research documents, op-eds, briefs, memos.
  • Support key When We All Vote rollouts and press events.
  • Track press mentions of When We All Vote, Civic Nation and their spokespeople.
  • Research reporters and compile press lists for When We All Vote.
  • Assist in administrative tasks for the communications team, including compiling morning news clips, shepherding media inquiries to the VP of Communications and Content, and coordinating interviews.
  • Other duties as assigned.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

  • 1+ year of experience in the non-profit and/or political environments, including internships.
  • Prior experience working on a fast-paced communications team, balancing multiple projects on tight deadlines.
  • A deep interest in social impact advocacy.

YOUR COMPETENCIES

  • Working knowledge of AP style.
  • Excellent writing and copy-editing skills, with great attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Proficiency in the Google Suite. Prior experience with apps like Cision and Mailchimp a plus.
  • Ability to listen, comprehend, and connect with a diverse group of individuals at all levels of the organization. 
  • Strong teamwork, critical thinking, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortability in independent project work and frequent fluctuations in workload

SALARY & BENEFITS

The Washington, DC-based salary range for this position is $55,000 (will be adjusted for cost of labor for the incumbent's work location) annually, commensurate with experience. PROCESS TIMELINE

Candidates can expect the following hiring process and timeline (please note that this timeline may be subject to change):  

  • May 13 – May 17: First-Round Interviews: Introductory Call
  • May 20 – May 24: Final Round Interviews
  • Week of May 27th: Hiring Decision announced
