GALVANIZE: Friday Night Live Returns This Week!





SEASON 10: WE ARE FAMILY

Anacostia Playhouse welcomes DC-area vocalists Alisha Glover and Christopher Prince to its Friday Night Live concert series. This series will feature songs ranging from jazz to gospel and rock.

Alisha Glover


Coined as "A Divine Muse" by some, Alisha boasts a strong and soaring multi-octave range that comparably emulates that of the late great Minnie Riperton. She's shared the stage with acts such as Rahsaan Patterson, CeCe Peniston, Howard Hewett, Regina Belle, Miki Howard, Rachelle Ferrell, Gerald Veasley, Keiko Matsui, Peter White, Jeff Majors, Alyson Williams, Ann Nesby, Glenn Jones and many others. Her vocal genres are jazz fusion, funk, gospel, rock, R&B, and pop.

Christopher Prince


A multi-talented writer, singer, actor, and activist, Christopher has performed at numerous jazz venues, festivals, and concert halls. Among these are the legendary DC Space, Blues Alley, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Adams Morgan Day, and the Fort Dupont Amphitheater. He has also performed at the San Remo Jazz Festival in Italy and the Festival de Castelle in the South of France with the jazz vocal group "The Four of Us."

Playwrights! Anacostia Playhouse is seeking new and non-produced 10-minute and one-act plays for the 2022-2023 New Voices, New Works Festival: Love: Make Ya Do Right / Make Ya Do Wrong. Selected playwrights will have the opportunity to work with a professional director and actors to prepare for a final staged reading performance. 


Submissions will be accepted through January 15, 2023.

Join the Anacostia Playhouse family as we acknowledge the progress in HIV prevention and care among the Black community while recognizing the work that still needs to be done. The event will feature panels, play performances, and singers, as well as free HIV/AIDS testing for the community.

Breakthrough

by Verna Craighead Green


This contemporary Gospel musical follows Pablo as he must decide between the church's draw and the street's draw. His journey of misfortune and hijinx with his crew leads him down the path of self-discovery. He ultimately must face the consequence of his choices. Will he make the right decision?
