(Career Progress) HIRING: Chief Impact & Operating Officer

Civic Nation seeks a Chief Impact & Operating Officer (CIOO) to serve on the Executive Leadership Team and oversee the operations of Civic Nation's central functions that service all of the organizations' Initiatives, including data and technology, legal, communication, marketing, organizing, training, business operations (facilities management, logistics, travel, etc.), and human resources; ensuring a work environment that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, to sustain organizational growth. This team within Civic Nation is referred to as the Civic Nation Hub.

YOUR IMPACT

Hub Team Management

  • Provide strategic direction, leadership, and direct management to the leadership team of the central Hub departments, including the Directors/EVPs of business operations, human resources, data and technology, legal, communications, marketing, and organizing 
  • Work with the leadership of each of the Hub departments to develop and continue to evolve the core resources offered by Civic Nation's Hub departments to support the work of the organization's Initiatives, programs, and campaigns
  • Oversee the development and alignment of Hub departmental goals, objectives, and key results with appropriate performance measures, monitoring, and evaluation
  • Ensure each Hub department maintains industry-standard best practices for administration, people & culture, compliance, organizational equity and inclusion, marketing, communications, and systems development and management
  • Oversee the legal operations of Civic Nation and manage the Senior Legal Counsel in addressing legal risks and issues 
  • Work with Hub team leadership to develop capacity to provide operational strategy and support to all initiatives, campaigns, and programs 
  • Develop capacity within the Hub systems, processes, and resources to flexibly launch new programs and campaigns, as well as create and sustain new initiatives

Organizational Development

  • Partner with the leadership and staff to foster and cultivate a culture that promotes the organization's values 
  • Lead Initiatives in organizational management, performance management, and leadership development across Civic Nation
  • Lead institution-wide change management initiatives, effectively execute strategies, and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of operational systems and processes
  • Foster alignment of Civic Nation's diversity, equity, and inclusion goals with operations strategies

Executive Team Leadership

  • Work in close partnership with the Civic Nation's Executive team to identify opportunities to expand the resources and services provided by the Hub departments to better meet and serve the needs of the organization's existing and proposed Initiatives, programs, campaigns develop new resources to service new and evolving needs from both established and new Initiatives, programs, and campaigns across the organization
  • Collaborate with the Civic Nation Executive and the Senior Leadership Teams to set and communicate overall vision, strategic direction, and operational  requirements, and ensure alignment with program objectives across the organization
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and excellence  across programs, advocacy, development, and all the Hub departmental functions
  • In partnership with other executive and senior leadership team members, facilitate the use of objectives and key results (OKRs), performance indicators, metrics, and analysis to inform decision-making and foster accountability

YOUR EXPERIENCE

  • 8+ years of cross-functional management experience.
  • 5+ years in a senior and/or executive-level leadership role 
  • Demonstrated success working as part of a senior leadership team driving innovative operational strategy, moving between being a strategic advisor and thought partners to key executives and other senior leaders

YOUR COMPETENCIES 

  • Demonstrated commitment to racial justice, social justice, accessibility, and civic engagement  
  • A track record of successfully leading internal change management processes, especially as it relates to organizational design, human resources, and organizational culture
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and translate overarching goals and strategies into operational objectives 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate complex organizational data into clear and simple messages for a wide range of audiences
  • Collaborative leadership style with an all-hands-on-deck attitude
  • Ability to prioritize and focus effectively across a wide range of responsibilities 
  • Strong ability and experience to manage remote teams from across the United States 
  • Familiarity with Google Suites, Zoom, and Slack Work Environment: Mostly working remotely and is expected to work across US time zones. 

SALARY & BENEFITS

The Washington, DC-based salary range for this position is $170,000 - $210,000 (will be adjusted for cost of labor for the incumbent's work location) annually, commensurate with experience. MANDATORY COVID-19 VACCINATION POLICY

Civic Nation is committed to protecting our employees and our communities from COVID-19. Toward that goal, and in consideration of guidance released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and various public health authorities and professional organizations, Civic Nation has implemented a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for its employees.

All employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as a term and condition of employment at Civic Nation unless an exemption or deferral has been approved. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after they get their second dose of a messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine, such as Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna, or two weeks after a single dose of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

New employees must be fully vaccinated before their start date unless an exemption due to a medical condition or a sincerely held religious belief or practice is granted.
