ABOUT AIDS UNITED
AIDS United is a nonprofit organization that works to end the HIV
epidemic in the United States through strategic grant-making,
technical assistance and capacity building services, policy and
advocacy. AIDS United's Public Policy Council consists of more than 55
HIV service organizations, national and regional coalitions and is the
largest and longest-running community-based HIV domestic policy
coalition in the country. AIDS United additionally represents more
than 200 grantee and subgrantee organizations serving people living
with and vulnerable to HIV throughout the United States.
ABOUT THE COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT
The Communication Department advances the vision and mission of AIDS
United by increasing visibility of the organization and its issues,
articulating the value of programs and initiatives, and partnering
with staff across the agency to develop tools and resources to advance
the field. The communication department works to ensure consistent
presence, messaging and branding of AIDS United's work across multiple
communication channels including social, traditional and digital
media, stakeholder engagement and print. Partnering with staff from
across the agency, as well as AIDS United grantees and members, the
department cultivates messages and stories that help to propel AIDS
United and its work forward.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The programs communication associate provides communication support to
each of the grant-making and capacity building initiatives across both
the federal and private sectors. The primary goal of the position is
to tell the story of how AIDS United's programs are making a
difference in the world and amplifying community voices through our
work. We hope to reach a wide variety of audiences with this message,
and so the position will employ a diversity of communication tools.
This position is writing intensive, and will include marketing,
promotion, editing, media relations, fundraising, social media
management, funder reporting and graphic design. The incumbent will
report to the communication manager, who will provide strategic
oversight and tactical support.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as primary liaison between grant-making and capacity building
initiative teams and the communication team.
- Plan, promote and distribute announcements, tools and resources,
trainings, news releases and webinars.
- Draft and upload blog posts, social media posts and graphics, and
communication documents.
- Contribute to and edit grant applications and funder reports.
- Monitor news, prepare weekly clips for social media, and research
stories and relevant topics across news outlets, blogs and social
media channels.
- Coordinate timely and relevant content and updates on aidsunited.org
and other online properties.
- Create shareable content appropriate for a variety of audiences to
distribute and promote AIDS United tools and resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Experience creating social media content (e.g., Twitter, Facebook,
Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube) and posting for a brand or
organization.
Strong attention to detail.
- Able to take initiative, multitask, work quickly and be flexible.
- Highly organized, able to work independently as well as being a team
player, and able to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent research skills.
- Fully comfortable within both Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Expertise with AP style.
- A degree in journalism, communication, marketing, English, public
relations or similar field of study.
- Graphic design experience.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Familiarity with the HIV epidemic in the United States.
- Experience with WordPress or other content management systems.
- Experience with a customer relationship management system.
- Experience with WYSIWYG editors and email blast platforms like MailChimp.
- Experience with social media monitoring software and analytics
platforms like Sprout Social, Hootsuite or Buffer.
- Comfortable with the most basic HTML (or comfortable finding the
answer by watching YouTube).
WORK HOURS AND LOCATION
AIDS United is a primarily virtual organization, and this position can
be based anywhere in the United States. Most of the staff are in the
Eastern Time Zone and generally work in the 9 a.m.-6 p.m. window.
Candidates in other time zones should be aware that meetings will
frequently occur in those times, regardless of your time zone. This is
a full-time, 40-hour per week position. AIDS United will provide all
the technology needed to complete this position and a stipend to help
pay for high-speed internet.
COMPENSATION
This position $45,000-50,000, commensurate with education and
experience. In addition to salary, AIDS United offers a very generous
compensation package, which includes fully covered health insurance
for the employee.

three writing samples, each fewer than 750 words and showcase
different communication tactics (e.g., social media posts, blogs,
fundraising solicitations, news releases, press statements, etc.).
Course work or writings from a previous job are acceptable.

There will be at least two rounds of interviews, and finalists for the
position will be asked to complete a writing and editing exercise.
