Position Description:
The Director of Talent Acquisition is responsible for leading the development and execution of the talent acquisition strategy, which aligns with and supports the organizational mission, values and strategy. This position oversees the full recruitment life cycle starting from creating and sustaining organizational brand consistency, to the application, selection and onboarding. As a leader within a multi-faceted People and Culture Unit, this position serves as a critical partner to staff and leadership to ensure recruitment and onboarding are equitable and support the ongoing success of the staff and organization. A successful candidate has an extensive background and understanding in People Operations/Recruitment and thrives on building and cultivating relationships, and strategically connecting top talent to the right roles.
A portion of time will be spent working with Community Change's sister organization, Community Change Action.
Principal Responsibilities:
People Leadership and Team Management (20%)
Serves in a leadership position within the People and Culture Unit and helps to to shape and operationalize strategic initiatives to meet the evolving needs of staff and organization.
Liaises with others on the People & Culture Unit as well as other teams/departments to promote a strong and equitable work environment.
Manages and oversees the hiring, training, professional development, and performance management of key Talent Acquisition staff.
Negotiates and manages recruitment and onboarding related contracts and agreements with vendors.
Manages the Talent Acquisition budget.
Talent Acquisition (Recruitment and Onboarding) (80%)
Oversees, designs and implements strategies to attract and onboard top talent for Community/Change Action (including full-time, part-time, temporary, contract/consultants and interns).
Oversee the full life cycle of recruitment and onboarding including pipeline development/sourcing, posting, screening, references, offer, and onboarding.
Develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate recruitment and onboarding strategies, systems, processes with key stakeholders across the organization.
Partner with hiring managers to develop effective sourcing and recruitment strategies that result in successful hires.
Develop innovative brand marketing strategies to recruit a diverse pool of qualified candidates.
Develop effective internal and external relationships to have influence and impact the recruiting process and hiring.
Works with the Director of People and Culture, and other leaders and supervisors to understand talent needs and develop or update position profiles and postings that effectively articulate those needs and competencies.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and organizational policies.
Proactively research and analyze talent trends to advance and further strengthen equitable and effective recruitment and onboarding at Community Change/Action.
Reports talent acquisition data and trends to leadership to help strengthen the staff experience and support the advancement of organizational goals.
Qualifications:
7 to 10+years experience in nonprofit management experience, ideally in progressive movement/social change organizing or advocacy organization.
Preference for professional certifications in Human Resources and/or related field (eg. SPHR/PHR or GPHR).
Proven experience in nonprofit HR/people operations.
Demonstrate sound judgement, flexibility and patience; exercise discretion in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive matters – both internally and externally.
Strong leadership skills, interpersonal/communication skills, and critical thinking skills required.
Strong project management skills – highly organized, impeccable time management skills, detail oriented, ability to consistently meet deadlines, and move and follow up on action items.
Ability to prioritize tasks, and work accurately under deadlines and the pressure of a fast-paced work environment.
Strong writing and editing skills.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, diplomacy, and discretion.
Team player with the capacity to be resourceful and flexible.
Commitment to advancing economic and race and gender justice.
This position reports to: Director of People and Culture
Supervisory Responsibility: Talent Acquisition Manager
Classification: Community Change recognizes a staff bargaining unit affiliated with IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is not included in Community Change's bargaining unit therefore not covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
Travel Requirements: This position may require some travel – up to 25% once COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.
Salary & benefits: Community Change offers competitive salary and an excellent benefits package, which includes 4 weeks of annual paid vacation; additional paid holiday leave between December 24 and January 1; 8% employer contribution to retirement account after six months of employment (and 3% employer contribution for the first 6 months); and a choice of generous health insurance plans.
Position Location: Community Change/Action is based in Washington, DC. Washington, DC is the preferred location for this position. Remote work is acceptable, however (frequent) visits to the DC office will be required upon the office reopening from the COVID-19 pandemic.
