Dear Pwi Theatre/Arts organization,
As we approach February, a free public service announcement. The next one will cost you.
Scheduling a Black History Month showcase for Black Artists in an effort to display your inclusiveness and "wokeness" when you have ZERO or minimal history of Black artists on your "team" and no history or clear connection to the community AND asking Black artists for their submissions for said showcase AND asking Black artists to participate for NO compensation (at anytime, but ESPECIALLY during COVID) is troubling and aggressively anti-Black and reeks of self-serving white arrogance that will stain your organization. You may want to rethink this.
And artists, consider who you're working with and how they value you. Don't be propped up as window dressing.....or as chattel.
Proceed accordingly.
