About Community Change and Community Change Action:

Community Change builds the power and capacity of low-income people, especially low-income people of color, to lead powerful and dynamic movements for social change. With our community-based partner groups, we bridge the grassroots and the national, supporting outsider strategies to disrupt the status quo while also building pathways to influence the insider conversation. 

Our vision of a better world centers the leadership of impacted people of color to move our work on immigrant rights, economic justice, and racial equity, including a focus on jobs and housing, early childhood care and education, income supports, and immigration reform.

This position also supports Community Change Action, an affiliated 501(c)(4) advocacy organization. While motivated by the same core values – equity, inclusion, and justice – Community Change and Community Change Action operate independently of one another and each organization has its own board of directors.

Position Description: 

Community Change and Community Change Action is looking for a multimedia producer savvy in visual storytelling through video, photos, kinetic text, and graphic design to tell the important stories of building power in low-income communities, especially communities of color. Our ideal candidate is a crafty multiplatform producer and editor with a deep commitment to social justice rooted in building the power and leadership of impacted people. We are looking for someone creative and collaborative, who is quick to deliver compelling and shareable content that shows the power of social movements. This Multimedia Content Creator will reinforce our effective narrative strategies and help us persuade, rally, catalyze and win a country where all of us have the opportunity to thrive.

Principal Responsibilities:  

  • Work with Community Change and Community Change Action teams and partners to tell the story of our social and racial justice work and its impact.
  • Create visual content – video, photos and graphics – for rapid response social media and brand marketing.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to brainstorm, design, aggregate and execute a range of visual products.
  • Interpret Community Change messaging strategies and routinely apply them to create effective narratives with shared values.
  • Develop and maintain an organized, sharable digital library of messaging documents, scripts, videos, photos, graphics.
  • Collaborate with communications team members to publish, distribute and promote visual work.
  • Coach, mentor and advise staff and grassroots partners on essential elements of visual storytelling for organizing.
  • Guide and manage Communications Fellows who tell the stories of what it means to struggle to get by.
  • Operate within a variety of moving priorities and deadlines so projects meet the moment and support the organization's goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Exemplary writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to frame ideas, develop stories and synthesize complex public policy issues in a creative way that appeals to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience with design, photography and video editing programs (Adobe Suite: Premier, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Outstanding interpersonal, presentation, communication, and time management skills. 
  • Motivated to share expertise with others – training colleagues and partners who demonstrate an interest to shoot and edit their own projects.
  • Experience discerning between file qualities and managing a range of media – keeping projects organized, shareable with colleagues, and optimizing for a variety of platforms.
  • Experience in motion graphics design and animation experience a plus.
  • Experience producing audio content or podcasts a plus.
  • Commitment to economic, race and gender justice essential.

Reports to: Senior Visual Content Creator and Strategist

Classification:  Community Change recognizes a staff bargaining unit affiliated with IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in Community Change's bargaining unit and covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

Travel Requirements:  Some travel may be required – up to 30% (once safe in light of COVID-19 pandemic)

Salary and benefits: $68,000 – $75,000 annual salary. Community Change also offers an excellent benefits package, which includes 4 weeks of annual paid vacation; additional paid holiday leave between December 24 and January 1; 8% employer contribution to retirement account after six months of employment (and 3% employer contribution for the first 6 months); and a choice of generous health insurance plans.

Position Location: Flexible-  Continental U.S with D.C.-area preferred. Note: For candidates based outside of D.C., frequent travel to D.C. (up to 50%) may be required post COVID-19 pandemic.
