(Career Progress) Opening: National Immigration Campaign Director- Community Change (Washington, D.C.)

About the National Immigration Campaign 

The National Immigration Campaign is a groundbreaking coalition of immigrant and progressive movement organizations committed to winning breakthroughs for immigrant equity and justice from the legislative and executive branches in the first year of a Biden-Harris administration. 

The campaign is chaired by Community Change, National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA), Service Employees International Union (SEIU), United Farm Workers and United We Dream along with our state-level affiliates, partners, and political committees.

We are seeking applicants committed to the proposition that after years of relentless and systematic assaults on immigrants and aspiring immigrants and refugees, we need to deliver much-needed relief for immigrant communities, be directly accountable to and responsive to immigrant communities, build power and momentum through breakthrough wins, and fundamentally overhaul the U.S. Immigration enforcement  system.

Position Description: 

The campaign director will have responsibility for managing all aspects of this multipronged, multi-million dollar, national campaign working in close coordination with campaign co-chairs, steering committee members, and a small dedicated staff team.

This role is a campaign flex position being housed at Community Change and may also require coordinating 501 (c4) program through its sibling organization, Community Change Action.

Responsibilities: 

• Coordinate overall strategy development and execution for the campaign. 
• Facilitate decision making processes within steering committee and co-chairs 
• Manage or supervise staff, consultants, and vendors in executing the overall plan.
• Manage overall campaign budget across multiple entities
• Manage and support implementation of the fundraising plan as needed
• Develop and oversee processes for partnerships with in-state field & constituency orgs
• Oversee campaigning–including likely substantial digital, field, comms, earned media and paid media efforts.  
• Develop structures to work effectively with steering committee partners' staff teams to inform and execute campaign strategy–and build systems for regular base consultation. 
• Serve as liaison to key stakeholders (as needed) including steering committee members, partners, media, the transition and administration, Hill, donors and others. 
• Oversee communications efforts to external and internal stakeholders. 
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and guidelines.

Qualifications: 

These are aspirational qualifications for the person in this senior role, however, if you see yourself in many of these but not all you are still strongly encouraged to submit your application:

• Candidates should have at least 7-10 years of experience running and working on effective advocacy campaigns, ideally with both candidate and issue advocacy campaigns at the state and/or national level. 
• Demonstrated success in coalition and movement building, managing complex stakeholder relationships and coalition tables, strong facilitation and active listening skills, ability to create an inclusive environment and build consensus. 
• Experience and competency in managing staff, contractors, and vendors, including remote management.
• Strong command of budget management and experience working closely with operations, compliance, and fundraising teams. 
• Strong understanding of C3 and C4 guidelines and restrictions
• Knowledge of, and relationships within, local and national immigrant rights organizations and/or the progressive ecosystem.
• Effective written and verbal communication, proactively ensure all parts of the campaign are communicating with each other.
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse groups and people.
• Self-motivated, independent, willing to work long, flexible hours.
• Good communication, writing, and administrative skills.
• Strong commitment to social and racial justice.
• Willing to travel up to 30% of their time.

We especially encourage applications from people who bring some of these additional skills and/or experiences:

• Deep experience living or working in Latinx and / or immigrant communities.
• Spanish language fluency including written and verbal interpretation.
• Brings a deep knowledge of or experience in immigration issues.
• Knowledge of dynamics in policy fights at the Executive and Congressional branches of government.

Reporting, Supervision, Travel 

Supervisory Responsibility: Lead a team of approx. 8-12 team members including a mix direct hires, in-kinded team members from coalition partners and contractors/vendors. 

This position reports to: National Immigration Campaign Co-Chairs

Travel Requirements: Some travel may be required – up to 30% (once safe in light of COVID-19 pandemic)

Position Location: Continental U.S with D.C.-area preferred. Note: For candidates based outside of D.C., frequent travel to D.C. (up to 50%) may be required post COVID-19 pandemic.

Classification: This position is not included in Community Change's bargaining unit and therefore not covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

Salary & Benefits: Community Change offers competitive salary and an excellent benefits package which includes 4 weeks of annual paid vacation; additional paid holiday leave between December 24 and January 1; 8% employer contribution to retirement account after six months of employment (and 3% employer contribution for the first 6 months); and a choice of generous health insurance plans.
