The International Relations Group of the Womans Club of Chevy Chase is presenting Marianne Szegedy-Maszak, journalist and author, on November 6 at its annual fundraiser luncheon. Cost is $25.00 for attendees, which goes toward the fundraiser to support women and girls in the world. Lunch will be salads and desserts provided by the International Group members.
Please see the information about the interesting talk by Marianne Szegegedy-Maszak on her parents, focusing on her book, I Kiss Your Hands Many Times inspired by her discovery of the love letter from her father to her mother during their forbidden courtship.
Her presentation recounts the love story but sets this into the political and social framework of Hungary in the 1930’s , the war years and thereafter. Her father was Ambassador to the US after World War II, l but resigned when the Communists took over. He worked for Radio Free Europe and Voice of America and lived in the Chevy Chase area of DC. Because her mother was a member of the Manfred Weiss Jewish family of manufacturers and bankers, the story also addresses discrimination against Jews and the Holocaust—which affected both Jews and Christians.
A very interesting presentation accompanied with power point pictures.
