The Kossuth Foundation Announces Hungarian Language Classes Starting in September
Romantic … exotic … unique. Make new friends while learning Hungarian. The Kossuth Foundation offers dynamic, group lessons for adults at four levels, beginner to advanced. Classes meet once a week in the DC area. Meeting days and times vary by level—see the descriptions below. The teachers all are native speakers with language teaching experience. The Hungarian Language Program integrates speaking, listening, reading, and writing while learning about Hungarian culture. If interested, please contact Gabor Rozsa at the Kossuth Foundation: grozsa@kossuthfoundation.org.
There will be an organizational meeting this coming Tuesday, September 19th at 6 pm at the Arlington Central Library located at 1015 North Quincy Street. If you are not able to attend, just send an email to let us know of your interest. The program does not charge tuition but asks for a voluntary donation that is used to help defray the cost of professional teachers and other costs. Schedules are subject to change due to holidays, inclement weather or other reasons. Classes are small but the minimum enrollment at each level is typically 5 students.
Beginner:
The emphasis of this introductory class is on pronunciation, vocabulary building, basic grammar, and basic conversation. This course is for those students with very little or no ability in the language. Introduction to basic listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills will be addressed throughout the course. Dialogues, readings, and cultural notes will be introduced in class. Previous Hungarian knowledge is not required.
Advanced Beginner:
This course is the continuation of the Beginner level, and is for students who had formal instruction some time ago, or have previous informal exposure to the language. Building on the basic foundation provided in the introductory level or personal experience, students will learn to conduct simple conversations on a range of everyday subjects. Listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills will be addressed throughout the course.
Intermediate:
Students at this level need to have a solid, basic foundation of the language, and are looking to expand their knowledge of the more complex forms of Hungarian. Listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills will be addressed throughout the course.
Advanced:
If you can speak Hungarian with ease, you'll enjoy these language instructions during which you'll practice your linguistic skills as well as improve your vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency. You will also learn more about Hungarian culture, and discover new expressions by reading or listening to news, or other current articles.
The Advanced Class is all set for the fall and will start on Tuesday evening, September 19th at the Arlington Central Library at 6:30 pm. Located at 1015 North Quincy Street.
