Smithsonian’s Discovery Theater will be auditioning artists for its 2026-2027 Season, including Seasons of Light, Jammin’ Through the Jazz Age, Powerful Pollinators! (See descriptions below).
Most rehearsals and performances take place Mon-Fri daytimes. All training, rehearsals, and performances PAID.
Auditions will be held on Wednesday, August 26th and Thursday, August 27th from 10:00am-4:00pm, with overflow slots on Friday, August 28th. Self-Tapes will be accepted if sent in by 5pm on Friday, August 28th – but please note that all callbacks are in-person. For consideration, please send your headshot, resume, and preferred date/time to: DTinfo@si.edu. Non-equity preferred; artists 18+ only.

Going the Distance
(Rehearsals: January 2027; Performances/Tour: February 2027)
Discover the story of jazz in America, guided by some of the genre’s biggest stars and brightest luminaries. This new Discovery Theater original play highlights the central roles of the musical theory and techniques that make jazz an indelible part of the American sound. Exploding with story, history, and sound, young audiences will leave with appreciation for jazz’s past, excitement about its present, and empowerment to carry this music into the future.

Powerful Pollinators
(Rehearsals: March/April 2027; Performances/Local Tour: April 2027)
Bats, butterflies, and bees—Oh, my! Set off on a journey to learn about the world of our planet’s powerful pantheon of pollinators. During the adventure, meet pollinators big and small as they do their part to keep the biodiversity of all our ecosystems thriving. Get ready to dance like a honeybee, leap like a lemur, and beat those hummingbird wings.
Cast of 3: Experience teaching or performing for young audiences preferred, but not required.
